Ive got a 99 SE-L and im looking into what i need to do for a DET upgrade. I hear all this about Blue Bird DET and other turbos like the FMAX kit. I really dont know anything about turbos so if should could give me the low down that would be great. And whats all this T28 T5/6 stuff? Do i need to swap out my entire engine or can i just upgrade some stuff for the turbo. What kind of prices am i looking at? And do i need JWT ECU also. Thank in advance.

I think you should take some time and do some SERIOUS research and come back here with any questions that you have. It might take a little time but it will serve you better to find this info for yourself. I doubt anyone is going to write an essay just because you requested it.
For starters go to www.se-r.net and read everything there twice. Then read through this forum for a couple weeks, searching out old posts as well.
Okay ive done my reading for today...
So heres what ive decided. Im gona stick with my DE stocker and slap a GTi-R T28 with the GTi-R Manifold for around 250HP. I know im gona need the 300ZX TT 370CC Injectors and a JWT ECU, with a new rear 02 sensor (thats what JWT told me). Now thats about all ive really been able to understand at this point.
Now comes the questions...
Do i need to get a enternal wastegate such as the Deltagate or is there one from the GTi-R that i can use?
What about the intercooler, i really like the idea of a hood scoop with the stock pulsar? intercooler(or what ever was the top mount) but has anyone done that, or is it just better to go with a front mount intercooler and if so what do you recomend? And will i have to cut up my stock 99 SE-L front bumper or can i just wedge it behind the bumber?
What about the BOV, first what does it do, and should i just get a GTi-R BOV or go with an aftermarket Greddy Type S BOV?
Downpipe, is there a downpipe that will mate with the GTi-R T28/Maniford, (does the downpiple mate to the turbo or the manifold?) Or should i just have a shop fab one up for me?
Oil/Water Lines, do i need to replace all the lines or drill into my block? Or can i use existing holes etc.
And i know about the battery relo kit so that wont be a prob.
Is there anything im missing so far, thats all ive been able to come up with. Also any suggestions as to where i can source these parts. And should i buy every thing used, or new. I guess i can get the injectors used and send them to RC engeering, but what about the turbo etc. Thanks in advance for all the help, im not trying to get anyone to write a novel here, just trying to learn, so any input is greatly appreaciated.
Oh yes just a few more things... I live in SoCal, so what about the EGR stuff, or does it even bother becuase with the turbo will i even pass visual smog? Is it every 5 years in CA that you have to get a smog check? Now that i think about it would it not be better to just get a BB DET and swap out the entire motor and then when it was smog time swap the de back in?

Internal wastegate on the GTi-R turbo. Oh, and it's adjustable between 7-9psi.

Front mount it. Depending on the size of your IC, you might not have to hack away at your bumper.

Do some more research to figure out what a BOV does. It basically just releases unused pressurized air when you close the throttle.

If there are existing holes in your block, you shouldn't be turboing that engine. ;) You're gonna have to drill and tap the block.

Yeah, a bunch more research. You can't just learn everything in a day. I would give it 3 solid months of researching and learning before you think you can undertake a project like this, especially with no prior experience with turbos.

If you care about smog in CA, then you shouldn't turbo your car. You will never pass the visual. If you want EGR to work, then you'll have to drill and tap the exhaust manifold to accomodate it.
Thanks for the help! BTW i see you live in CA so what do you do about smog, i mean i dont really care about it but i dont **** have to buy a used de to drop in just so i can drive my car on the street.
