I am going to post a step by step how to take apart the NX doorhandles. When I come back from the store.:biggthump
masterpirate13 08-14-2006, 06:44 PM looks nice. I like it. Nice job recovering the panel inserts too.
dsp26 08-14-2006, 10:40 PM looks awesome!!! did you have to take out the door handle lever to paint it?
also who did you do the leather trim yourself? looks shit hot!!!!!
nismo94tuner 08-14-2006, 11:00 PM Nice job bro. You are the reason why I painted my center trim and around the gauge cluster. I was a big fan of it since I saw it on your car. More pics please of all the little trim that you did.
Pretty White 08-15-2006, 04:38 AM looks awesome!!! did you have to take out the door handle lever to paint it?
Yes, here are the details. And Iam going to explain why I did not just mask the outside of it off..
As you know I am broke (maybe not) and want to spruce up the interior of my NX.
So I decided to do the HVAC covers, the ashtray, glovebox, the insturment cluster and the door trims in meduim silver. All those pieces you can figure out on your own how to remove. The doorhandles I thought were going to be easy, but turned out to look sloppy when it was done. So I had to do some dissecting.
To remove them all you have to do is take the phillips screw out the middle, slide it foward http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0250.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4971) and take out the lock and opening rods. You cannot confuse the two and it is clear which will be top and which will be bottom.

For easier access remove the retainer to make the rods move freely:

These are the tools you need to prepare the surfaces (this goes for all the interior pieces)
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0204.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4916)
Pretty White 08-15-2006, 02:56 PM Clean the pieces you want to color with whatever you choose(Brillo, SOS, sandpaper) and rinse:
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0205.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4917)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0206.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4918)
You can either air dry them or be inpatient like me and use the wifes blowdryer.. :biggthump
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0208.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4919)
Once dry you could try to tape them up....http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0213.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4923)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0214.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4924)
Then spray. These are the things you need fro prep and paint:
Adhesive promoter and Color:

http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0224.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4931)
Light coats, be paitent so it does not run.
When I took the masking tape off I realized the clearences were too tight and when the handles were released it (the paint) did not cover all of it. I hate sloppy work   so I looked to see it they could be taken apart.
Sure nuff they could :biggthump -
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0237.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4966)
You can see a pin that can be knocked out of the handle-
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0238.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4967)
Pretty White 08-15-2006, 03:01 PM Knock the pin out gently, studying how the spring is supposed to be seated or just do one handle at a time so you can see how it is supposed to sit:
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0238.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4967)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0236.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4965)
Here, the handles are seperated:
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/IMG_0235_1.JPG (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4964)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/IMG_0234_1.JPG (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4963)
You can see the paint I was talking about that did not spread well:
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/IMG_0233_1.JPG (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4962)
After some rubbing down to smoothen the old paint out (the SOS pads) and respraying here are the results-
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0246.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4969)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0256.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4974)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0257.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4975)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0258.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4976)http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0260.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4977)
And all is well is Smurfland:
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/600/thumbs/Img_0244.jpg (http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4968)
Hope these pics help some of you out trying to freshen up the interior of the old B13...:biggthump :biggthump :D

As a matter of fact I would. I wish you still had the B13, I know that interior inside out. I am not fimilar with the B14. Hollar. I have a new phone Chipey, so I lost your number.
Here is the ignition switch rim and rear speakers.
If you look closely at the speaker panels/map door, you will see white cloth behind them to match the Infinity tweeters :biggthump

Thank you my Irish brother!
dsp26 08-16-2006, 04:55 AM woooOOooow!!! yes your attention to detail evident from those pics are immaculate!!! excellent choice in colour also, didn't realise that tone of silver would match the nissan grey.
i really really love the smoothness of your paintjob on the pocket/speaker grill.
oh and thanks for the interior door handle instructions!!
Pretty White 08-16-2006, 06:36 AM With the right amount of coats and clear it is virtually chip resistant. What I recommend from personal experience (mistakes) is that you should wet scuff the parts and repeat the process the day after (use only one light coat of clear primer if any at all) and it will be scratch resistant. If it does get nicked it will only reveal the grey underneath.
