: Jay's old car getting reborn...
97se-rblown 08-14-2006, 08:54 PM I know some some of you guys remember Jay with a red turbo b14. Well I purchused it from one of the few people whole have had it after him about 4 month's ago. About a month ago the dip stick started to come out and found out that I got the motor when it was on it's way down. Well I have a bunch of money saved up and decied I am going to try to make a 400+ hp out of it. I just wanted see if there was anyone in the tampa bay area that can help with the rebuild because I am new to building import motors. I can probly use as much help as I can get with this.
Matt
chimmike 08-14-2006, 08:59 PM well, depends on where in the bay area you are.
97se-rblown 08-14-2006, 09:18 PM The car is in the valrico area but I will be able to trasport the car/motor anywhere I can get help but I am waiting on a block from a fourm memeber and I start ordering my parts tomorrow
U12BBDreamer06 08-15-2006, 01:39 PM gl on the rebuild....i would try that new shop in south tampa(chimmike knows the guy there)....all the other ones seem to be doing not so great jobs....if i had to take it to one of them it would be xat though...there expensive but i havent heard bad work.
JimmyNX2000 08-15-2006, 02:51 PM you showed up with that car at the meet i set up a while back right? i think i remember you, cool guy. If you have the $$ saved up for a build i already say dont waste your $$ and buy a VE and turbocharge it.
97se-rblown 08-16-2006, 02:52 AM I am going to have XAT put my block interals back together and I am going to do the rest of the work myself. They wanted like 1700 to put the whole motor back together which is alot. So I am going to be putting the head and what not back together myself.
I did go to the show a while back and I don't know much about VE stuff so I am going to just try to make high 300 in like 2 months or so. Then hoping to get into the 400plus next year. I am going with a O2induction mani, GT30R or GT35R, bored out bottom end with wiesco pistons, egeal rods, Love fab mani and a emangement tune at XAT.
JimmyNX2000 Aren't you glad you did buy this before me because I remember you said you want to buy it at the meet.

JimmyNX2000 08-16-2006, 03:57 AM youre getting raped bro. XAT can kiss my St. Pete SR20 garages lovin ass. Imbetween our own locals and our rather good friendships to some of the guys down south we can do our own work pretty much.
Dont take this the wrong way but from many others tried attempts that weve seen here in the community youre setup is not going to be worth it at all.
IIRC you have a bluebird engine. you could get a good 400-500 locally in good condition i would hope.
You could also sell your current turbo and probably spend a bit extra on top to buy an SC61( gods gift to mankind ).
Get the VE.... It is the only way to go pretty much these days. we have the easiest best transplant of a really good engine nissan developed. N/A or boost its just insane.
With that 1700 into the engine itself along with the ballbearing turbo and expensive manifolds..... man you could have a sick ass turbo VVL.
In all honesty to do everything right your setup will cost well over 4 grand.
So let me try and convince you how much better this is.
SR20VE-1500
tweaking the bottom end-500ish.
SC61-600-700
And i also say pay the money for an EMS stinger.
Pretty much with getting rid of your old setup you will have most of the cost already covered.
That setup i believe is similar to mannys setup. That car is a straight up 500+ whp Beast. so not only is it more practical and cheaper if not the same cost, you will easily have more hp potential than what you wanted out of your DET.
97se-rblown 08-16-2006, 09:33 AM ok well hit me up some time since it sounds like you know a little bit more. I just need someone to point me in the right direction to big power. call me any time before like 10. 293-2669

On the home page, the smaller pic of 5 Z's, one of the red ones is mine, the other is my buddy's.
sunnysupersaloon 08-16-2006, 08:21 PM Chimmike,
i know you recomended HoP but there knowledge of VVL seems very limited or close to non-exsistant i called them concerning some work that needed to be done and there were telling me that they have never heard of the motor ( this from there tech)
i have no doubt in there work in SR20DET work is great, but in there VVL work i would be skeptical about......
this by no means is bashing them just seemed to me they didnt know what there were talking about?
but i would reccomend Jay Whitely very highly he worked on my stuff A++++ work and guy " he might be still outta commision he was injured dunno if he has recovered yet?
chimmike 08-16-2006, 08:38 PM I know what you mean, there aren't many people familiar with the VVL....so yeah if you know/trust someone with the VVL go to them. As for most anything else I really like HoP.
sunnysupersaloon 08-16-2006, 09:34 PM maybe you can convince Mike to work on your stuff :P
boostenb13 08-16-2006, 09:46 PM Well you can take it to my mechanic. He has already done a VE swap into a B13. Sold the car though. Im sure he can turbo your VE, DE, or better ur DET, whichever one you choose to get. Send me a PM if ur interested. He is located in the Orlando area and as were looking to open a shop together, we'lll give you a good price, definately less than $1700... Send me a PM if your interested. He does clean work...
Just send me a PM with what it is u wanna do and Ill talk with him, and give you an estimate. There is plenty of different routes you can go to build 400 whp out of a SR motor and dont believe the hype VE's arent everything or the only way. They are just the new fad... Their are plenty of Bluebirds, Avenirs, and Pulsar 54c's out there kicking a**. Holla back.
97se-rblown 08-18-2006, 03:38 AM I am going more towards a VE right now but I have to find some one to put the head on right.
JimmyNX2000 08-18-2006, 11:53 AM dont buy just the head, buy the entire engine.
97se-rblown 08-19-2006, 03:31 PM A head is cheaper to buy and ship.... I want a beefy bottom end and still be able to get UR pulleys on. I want to keep my bottom end so I can go standalone. The only issue is with the vavles and that isn't hard if I find some one who can do it right. I know if I go cheap now I will pay for it later but I am going to go ahead and get a head. I know there is got to be someone who knows how to shim the head up right so I wont have any problems.
Does anyone know where I can buy a VE head for a good price? Under 1k with shipping if possiable.
-Matt
JimmyNX2000 08-21-2006, 01:38 AM yes a head might be cheaper but the entire engine is better. oil pump water pump etc.
JimmyNX2000 08-21-2006, 01:39 AM also bottom end components will be compatible between the VE and the DET. pretty much the same block.
97se-rblown 08-21-2006, 03:28 AM Well after talking to a fourm member I decied to sell my engine and buy a sr20ve. I am going to just throw in some CP pistions, Egael rods, sr16ve cam or a bigger cam with springs and retainers. Then go from there with a o2induction mani, lovefad mani and a sc61. Then a stinger EMS to control it all.
I know i will pass my goal with out breaking a sweat with that but I will need some one to tune my stinger for me or just teach me how to.
Does anyone want to buy a BB that has the head off and just needs new rings for cheap.
Matt
92_Sentra 08-21-2006, 04:41 AM if you want the block internals put back in let me know, i will help you along your way. pm me if your intersted, I just did a High Comp build this weekend
