sr18 gbox from the pulsar GTI or the sunny GTS (jap specs btw) will work for both 20de & det... FWD of course

yes it will fit but my question is that the sr18 and sr20 tranny has the same gear ratio?

Depends on the final ratio, but prob yes, we run these boxes in Nz, same as the box in Sentra (SER??) and such over there in the usa. Rs5f32v, commonly 4.1 final drive, but sometimes (very rare) in 3.8 and 4.4. They actually seem to be better at the drags (from a 3rd gear breakage point of view) than they are on the street or circuit as the traction is usually less on the drag strip, so it will chirp the tires on the shift and remove some of the load.

yah ive seen here in the philippines using sr18 tranny and it really pushes hard in 3rd gear. and his 3rd gear really long. hmm... so the 3.8 and 4..4 are better for drag? any idea what code has on it?

Sorry, meant that the gti sr18 box lasts longer when used for drags than for street or track use, not referiing to the diff ratio. Most would be 4.1, which is fine for drags, 4.4 would mean shifting 5th before the line, i run low 12s and getting about 7000rpm in 4th over theline with a 4.1

wow low 12's!! by the way, i talked to the guy with the sr18 tranny and he says before he uses an sr20 tranny and run 15.9 secs in a quarter mile. then when he shift to sr18 tranny he ran 15.2 secs. wow thats a big difference for just a tranny

Sr20 trans is usually open diff, sr18 is usually vlsd, so could well be the reason for that one.

Im sort of referring to the asia region, so jdm cars like n14 gti and b13 gts sunny with the sr18de usually lsd, and p10 primera being the most common sr20 powered car is usually open diff.
