: What exhaust Set-ups are you running?
SR20DEVIL(T) 04-21-2002, 02:18 PM I was thinking/looking around at different products, and I have decided to go custom 3", with a hi flow cat, Im not so sure about the resonator yet, and Im not sure about the muffler yet either. I just got my Avenir last week and now its time to get my @$$ in gear. I am using the BB 2.5" downpipe, then from there back I am going to run 3" pipes. I dont want to run the 3" DP because of clearance issues I may have (especially where I live). What is everyone else running for exhaust set-ups with there turbos? What muffler, and do you wish it could be more quiet? Thanks.
Rockwood 04-21-2002, 06:57 PM i have the avenir turbo in my B14, and i ran the following:
2.5" downpipe.
stock cat
3" mandrel tubing with 24" walker resonator
18" magnaflow 2.5" muffler (i want quiet!)
it is quiet, nice deep tone with no nasty buzzing, just sounds smooth and strong, i like it, and boost doesnt fall off, even at 11 psi. (had my friend watch the guage while i set the controller, and he didnt say anything but "damn, it holds 11 psi all the way to redline" after i had run through 1st-4th, oops, plugs looked fine afterwards)
the only drawback is the piping has some clearance issues and rattles all over the place, gonna get it fixed wednesday though.
SeattleSE R 04-21-2002, 10:54 PM 2.5" SR20DEvelopment downpipe.
3" test pipe in place of catalytic converter(thanks to Jay Whitley)
3" mandrel bent exhaust to a Apex'i N1 turbo muffler.
My SE-R shoots fire.

That's about the setup I'm going with... How does it sound? I'm hoping the N1 will sound nice, but have yet to hear one. I'd love to have it sound like the Apex'i Dunk exhaust on my Civic, but I doubt that would ever happen. Let me know!
SeattleSE R 04-22-2002, 09:42 PM How does it sound? W/o making a sound clip you won't really know by me describing it.
It does sound about the same in loudness and tone as my brother's 91 MR2 Turbo with Apex'i GT Spec exhaust.
Does not sound buzzy or ricey at all, it's deep, growls, and will set off car alarms at idle. It does drone on the freeway.
It's a world of difference compared to my old Hotshot header, to stock cat, to courtesy 2.5" midpipe to 2" crush pipe to 5zigen fireball fart cannon.
sr20detutah 04-22-2002, 09:50 PM 2.5" mandrel bent downpipe, Stock cat, 2.5" mandrel bent b-pipe w/resonator, 2.5" oval can muffler w/3" tip. Flows really well. No boost drop off at all, as quiet as a straight through muffler gets, no droning on the highway and a nice deep tone. The perfect exhaust for the turbo guy who wants it fast and resonably quiet.
I'm very happy.
Zak91SER 04-22-2002, 11:37 PM I don't have any specific brands, but here's what I have: Fmax 3" downpipe, 3" glasspack resonator, 3" cat, 3" muffler. All piping is 3", mandrel bent, including the downpipe. The resonator, cat and muffler are all straight-through designs. All those components are pretty long too, the muffler and resonator are both over 20" long each, the cat is I think like 16 or 18" long. This, BTW, is the key to having a full 3" exhaust system that doesn't make your ears bleed. The longer each component is, the better... and make sure there's a glasspack resonator in there somewhere.
