No no Im not trying to make a crazy drifting machine but I am trying to make a car that i can take to the tracks and run races. Plus i also want a show car. I mean I'd like to have a 10 second car. As for the actual engine type that i would put in to the 240 SX i am still unsure about because i have no idea what my options are.

the RB series motors are I6's from various Skylines, 2 liter, 2.5 liter, 2.6 liter. The SR20 is a 2 liter 4 cylinder from a Silvia (240sx) in Japan. It's the most common swap for the 240sx, will start you at right around 200 hp.

RB series is more power right out of the box vs. any SR series (inline 6 cyl. vs inline 4 cyl.)... however, significant parts are (still) not readily available in the USA for any RB motor. Pistons, head gasket, rods... that's all I can come up with. Water pump for an RB26? You're SOL.

Here's an easy breakdown.

Your current engine: KA24DE. 2.4 liters, iron block, stout as hell. My personal opinion would be to turbocharge that bad mofo. Replacement parts readily available at any Nissan dealership.

SR20DET. Turbocharged, 2.0 liters, rev-happy, all-aluminum block. Many parts available from any Nissan dealership, and from Enjuku Racing, just to name something off the top of my head. Buy one from an "S15" (read - most modern) Silvia and you could luck out and get the 6-speed transmission, which is useable in some 240s.

RB20DET. Turbocharged, 2.0 liter inline 6 cylinder engine. Yeah, it's small for a 6 cylinder, but it's rev-happy also. Good luck finding any parts for this, aside from a select few internet/performance retailers.

RB25DET. Turbocharged, 2.5 liter inline 6 cylinder engine. Standard fare in any +/-1994 and up Nissan Skyline GTS. It's more popular with 240/Silvia people because it actually comes with a useful tranny, and there's significantly more American-based aftermarket coverage for this engine.

RB26DETT. Twin-turbocharged, 2.6 liter inline 6 cylinder engine. The granddaddy of all Skyline engines. Most japanese tuning shops prefer this engine for its block architecture, and bore/stroke relationship (almost square?). There's about as much aftermarket coverage for this engine as there is the RB25, I'd imagine.

All engines being stock, the RB26 is the most powerful. Any RB engine, however, will require lotsa "shoehorning" to get that mofo to fit in the engine bay. Your crank pulley will be right up against your radiator, no joke. This'd be more for bragging rights, if it were me.

Any SR swap, although somewhat cheaper when compared to an RB swap, is still a little expensive, especially if you decide to spring for the S15 eng/trans combo. You could probably build a more-reliable fast car with this engine than any of the RB series. The parts "abundance" for this engine is also helpful.

However, there's an overabundance of KA24DE parts. Everyone's junking their old engines for these swaps.... most engines aren't worn out or even close, just removed to make room for an exotic engine. An Iron block, and an 0.4-liter displacement advantage make this engine a viable alternative to turbocharging a 240. More displacement (usually) means a flatter torque curve, with more area under that curve, which is a good thing for drag racing.

Besides, that engine's already in the car!

Hope it's helpful, and welcome to the forum.

Hey, since you're here.... here's some places to check out 240 stuff.

XAT Racing, Inc. (http://www.xatracing.com/xatracingparts.html?row2col1=KAT.html) They offer out-of-the-box turbo kits in various stages.

SSAutochrome. (http://www.ssautochrome.com/level.itml/icOid/1625) They offer multiple Nissan RWD performance parts... it appears they even have parts for RBs. It's cheap, and it's a quick way to get boosted. Keep in mind, however, in some cases, you get what you pay for.

Top Hat Performance. (http://www.tophatperformance.com/) If you're up to swapping engines, they offer a fully-built KA24DET engine, as well as RB swap sets. This is pretty much the most engine-comprehensive company for your swap needs. However, they're a little pricey.

Enjuku Racing. (http://www.enjukuracing.com) These guys are just about as comprehensive as Top Hat as far as engines go.... if you find a need for exterior, drivetrain, or suspension parts, these guys are your best bet. They cater to the entire car.

Hope it's fun, and definitely post pictures in Members Rides when you can.
