looks like a coolant catch can for an fd

and ive never heard it called a breather tank before, allways catch can

Breather tank and catch can are two different things bro: the catch can is not connected to the lower rad hose (or heater hose) as far as I know. The breather tank goes between the rad and the overflow tank (sometimes also called catch can).

In your case it does not seem to be connected to the rad in any way. In my case it's connected to the lower rad hose and in between the rad and overflow tank. It's filled up with coolant, therefore. I have an oil catch-can too, but that's another story. All Greddy btw.
