My current exhaust is a rusty mess. It is stock, with stock muffler. I want to get a VE in the next year. I would rather get something for the VE and install it on my stock sr20de and just put it on the VE when I get it (so as to avoid buying two headers). Can I do this? I have a 91 SE-R.

Well, the answer always comes down to money. An average VE specific header's asking price is more than a DE one. If you are definitely going the VE route and droppig cash for decent VE parts, then get the best VE specific header you can afford/get. Compatibility should not be an issue on the DE. The problem usually lies in people who already have a DE header and swap in a VE engine since the ports are different. (VE is bigger) So if you got the cash, go ahead and buy a VE header and slap it on the DE. But if you are unsure then that may not be in your best interests to waste that kind of cabbage right now. Assuming if all you are looking for is to replace your "rusty mess", the SSAC header is always a cheap alternative and if and when you do go VE you can always port it out a bit so fix the overlap.

Yes, but the ports don't quite match, so you'll get to replace the well-toasted gasket when it's time to switch. Spend some time figuring out how to Search (Look up toward the top of the page, the bar that starts with "Contributor" and look third from right). There have been MANY threads both debating the not many options for tubes and exhaust, including ongoing now. I see you're local; I'm near Stone Mountain, happy to chat about it, I think there are three in the area including mine.

Stone mountain haha. Now I get the avatar sig. When visiting my brother, I remember seeing that huge slab while flying in and wondering the the heck that thing was!!! Only been there once to play golf I think. Sorry for the OT.

get a 2.5in vrs ss exhaust kit
get your favorite magnaflow muffler (if you have a b13 get a dual tipped muffler it looks great and stockish)
Get what ever header you want depending on how much you want to spend

weld it all up and enjoy
