: Lightweight But Loud
RedDragun 09-04-2006, 12:08 AM I just sold my two 12" Kicker Comps in a dual 12" Memphis ported box (all of the audio equipment weighed 100lbs+). They were powered by an MTX Thunder w/ a max of 180watt rms output.
I am looking to replace those with one ALOT smoother and ALOT louder SINGLE 12" sub to be powered by my current amp. I will also need a box. I want this to be badass, sound great, thump hard, and recover quickly. I would like for it to hit harder than my dual subs did when they were underpowered. Thanks guys!
I don't want to weigh the car down very much. I will take the spare tire and jack out to help even it out hopefully, but I love the bass!
Kinyo 09-04-2006, 12:13 AM i got 2 12" Dual brand subs in bandpass box hitting off a 600 watt lit Lanzer amp
thats just for now though- untill i get my 2 12" alpine type x comps and 3,000 watt amp rack installed (i need to add to that rack still!!!)
if you want somethin that bumps like nothin else and is relativelely weight to sound ratio - get the 10" Alpine Type X
it has a dual voice coil (exelent sound and quality)
Ebay Link Here - Check it out.. ebay's the cheapest place i've found for audio equiptment (http://cgi.ebay.com/ALPINE-SWX-1042D-1042-D-10-Sub-Type-X-Subwoofer-NEW_W0QQitemZ130022571160QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3291QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Alpine Type-X subwoofers take bass performance to a new level. They've got so many outstanding design and component features like High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS) that allows for an incredible amount of linear excursion and greater SPL. Coupled to a cone made of carbon fiber and an aluminum honeycomb material, the result is a terrific combination of huge output and tight, accurate sound quality.

RedDragun 09-04-2006, 12:27 AM Hmm. I guess I should just say that I have a $300 budget, and I need an amp and a BADASS sub that will rock my car and sound AMAZING.
Kinyo 09-04-2006, 12:32 AM :biggthump Hmm. I guess I should just say that I have a $300 budget, and I need an amp and a BADASS sub that will rock my car and sound AMAZING.
that sub is US $107.50 and like 40 shipped
sell your amp to some one and then buy a better amp with leftover money off of e-bay
:D
RedDragun 09-04-2006, 09:02 PM Hmm. Looks nice, I was thinking someone was going to recommend ED. What is a good 1000watt RMS amp then? And what box would be best for this sub? I want semi-quick recovery.
classicaddict 09-04-2006, 10:46 PM 1000watt rms? your going to need a hell of alot more money than $300 for that kind of power. all you really need is a DVC 12 inch sub and a good amp. i have an alpine v12 that has an rms of around 280 wired at 2 ohms. i just orderd a 12inch jbl dvc 4 ohm, wire it up to 2 ohms and ill be cookin. believe me when i say 300watts of bass is PLENTY. also, fuck bandpass.........they sound like dirt, go sealed its so much cleaner.
i got 2 12" Dual brand subs in bandpass box hitting off a 600 watt lit Lanzer amp
^that is nothing to brag about my friend....id keep that on the DL lol.
if i were you i would look into ED, diamond audio, anything "low key" because they are very very good drivers but also cheaper than jl, alpine, eclipse........anything you would find in a rappers trunk lol.
RedDragun 09-04-2006, 11:14 PM Would there be any sub that would work good off of 180rms? I'd rather not have to buy a new amp. Does ED have anything badass in a 10" size that will work well with the amp I have?
TheRealNightHog 09-05-2006, 12:40 AM I have a cadence Z1000 IIRC its 400w RMS @ 2 ohm. Mono amp though. Paired it with a Image Dynamics IDQ12. Bumps nice, clean and hard. The amp is for sale < shameless plug.
burtoNX2000 09-05-2006, 12:52 AM i had 1 10'' alpine type-r in my civic hatch and i think i only had 200 watts going to it and it was PLENTY of base. i bought the on floor stuff and got it all installed for $300. that was a couple years ago. ide love to have the same thing in my egg.
T200Sx 09-05-2006, 02:36 AM 1 infinity 1230 or a JL W7 12 work fine I have an infinity in mine and its not to heavy but sounds really nice
Kinyo 09-05-2006, 06:32 AM ya its nothin to brag about but hey - its temp and old :D till i start workin on the fiberglass interior this winter :D
and that Alpine type x - Speaker Maximum Output Power: 3000 Watts ..

NismoB14SX 09-05-2006, 01:33 PM I got 2 Pioneers. 1600 watt max, 300 watt RMS. it works.
LMAO you want it to b loud, sound amazing, and rock your car, and your amp puts out 180 watts and you have a $300 budget???
SOrry it does not exist. If you want ANY single sub. that will do that you are going to need a minimum of 500 clean watts to do that. The sub alone will be more than $300.
You need to up your budget or lower your expectations.
RedDragun 09-08-2006, 06:00 PM The ED 11Ov.2 sub is only $200... It is 300-600watt RMS....
thehardknoxlife 09-09-2006, 04:48 PM Here are a few to look in to https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraudio.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=154503226a710ee/shopdata/0020_Q/product_overview.shopscript
it's a new company owned by the designer of the XXX.....and for the price you pay for these you just can't beat them....
http://www.ascendantaudio.com/assassin_page.html Good sub and very cheap also look at the Arsenal sub.....
http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/products_page.php?id=idmax&type=sub one of the best SQL sub out considered by some, also look into the IDQ series.......
http://www.stereointegrity.com/Magnum12.html also another sub considered to be one of the best SQL sub out...has been compared to the ID Max on many occasions, it was designd by the owner of Fi audio also....they released a new BM series recently I'd look into that
http://www.treoonline.com/ssi.html great subs from this company also....
the reason people think bandpass boxes sound like crap is because they haven't heard a properly designed bandpass....you have to design the box around the woofer...you can't just throw any sub in a bandpass and expect amazing results....I have a 6th order bandpass in my car and it sounds great..........everyone else seems to think it sounds real well too.....in it is a Fi Q series woofer
thehardknoxlife 09-09-2006, 05:06 PM I re-read and see that it's a $300 for a sub and amp.....in that case
Alpine Type R........can't get much better in the $100-200 range...it's louder than the X FYI but the X sounds alot better. The R still sounds very good.....other notiables are the Assasins I mentioned earlier $70 a pop is a very good deal IMO.....Pioneer Premier TWS-3004spl......It is on par with the Type R and a little cheaper.....I could probably mention some more if you'd like....as for an amp there are alot of options...I have one 600 watts of Phoenix Gold power that I will sell you cheap *** the bassboost knob is broke.....someone could probably fix it with superglue....maybe...but who needs bassboost anyway, its stuck on 0 as is.....
RedDragun 09-09-2006, 08:55 PM I can't find the Type X anywhere.... Also would the ED 10" sub be better than the ones you listed or will the Alpine be better? I just want a sealed box, to get one made isn't cheap....
thehardknoxlife 09-09-2006, 09:40 PM I haven't personally used ED subs so I can't really say...I won't bash ED but I will say the Type R is a great woofer for the price.....i'd pick the ID Max, SI Mag, Fi Q over any entry ED sub......The Q taking the cake *** it's the cheapest $260 shipped but it only comes in a 12" and up to 18", there is only 1 Q 10" sub and I have it......lol search ebay for a Type X they can be had with a warranty for under $200 shipped.....
djtwinky 09-17-2006, 11:12 PM im ***** sell my sqaure 12 and amp and cap.....
budsang1 09-17-2006, 11:57 PM The ED 11Ov.2 sub is only $200... It is 300-600watt RMS....
Pair a eD 11Ov.2 with a NINe.2, and port that sucka, to eD's specs, that is important, and it'll rock your socks off.

Ok, my walk down memory lane is over, but I really cannot say enough for eD, they are an amazing company. The owner of eD has get togethers at his place, the customer service/warranty are amazing:biggthump I'll never buy an amp, subs or speakers from another company, EVER!!
I sold all my eD stuff for go fast goodies, but rest assure, once I get a nice daily driver, it'll have some eD goodness
