: my horn doesn't beep! (yes i searched!)
SE-R Driver 09-07-2006, 09:06 AM OK i did a search and i see that some people on here have/had horn problems. most of them say need new wires, but i know nothing and i mean nothing about this car. the concept is the same as the other cars i have worked on so i have an idea but i really don't know where to look. ok this is what i have done so far. I changed my horn relay = nothing, checked and changed the fuse under the hood = nothing, took my horn out my rx7 and put it in the 200sx = nothing. i am lost and i really want my horn fixed. what other ideas do you guys have for me? the only thing i can think of is taking the steering wheel off and checking the wire in there. but i have no clue on how to remove the steering wheel. can anyone give me a hand here? by the way its a 1996 200sx SE-R
shipyard 09-08-2006, 10:55 AM The best thing to do is to get a voltmeter and test the horn wiring. Disconnect the horn use the voltmeter to make sure the circuit is working.
If you get a signal then the horn itself is bad or the ground is bad.
If you get a signal then Connect the horn from the 200sx in the rx7 make sure it works. If the horn works and your getting signal than reground the horn.
if you don't get a singal Then you will have to rewire the horn.
SE-R Driver 09-08-2006, 11:14 AM yeah i tried that last night putting the 200sx in the rx7 it beeped :( i think i am going to have to rewire it! it sucks but i want a horn
blurr.rt.by.you 09-08-2006, 11:22 AM check the airbag connection
SE-R Driver 09-08-2006, 02:36 PM i don't know how to take that off! have any steps on how to do it?
Sr20kidD 09-08-2006, 02:55 PM mine is blowing up the fuses in the engine bay, I will need to check on the steering cluster and see whats going on.
NismoSER 09-08-2006, 02:57 PM To take off the airbag, you'll *probably* need a T50 Torx bit. I say "probably" because this is how it was on my '95 Maxima and I'm assuming its the same for a similar year Nissan. Note that this bit is the tamper-proof bit, with a hole in the middle of the bit in order to clear the stub in the Torx screw.
I believe there are 4 Torx screws (accessed behind the cruise control buttons, and behind another panel on the opposite side of the wheel), which are held in by Loctite. Might be a little tough to remove at first.
Then, the airbag module will come right out, and you should see the clockspring which connects the horn and cruise control to the car's harness.
SE-R Driver 09-08-2006, 03:35 PM now that you say that, my cruise control doesn't work! i need to check that again it might be bad! so the clock spring it is then! thanks man i will "try" this weekend i hope, going to see formula D :)
viprdude 09-08-2006, 04:07 PM change the fuse. when both my cruise controlstopped and the horn, i changed a fuse and it was fixed for a little bit
zipstrips 10-03-2006, 07:42 AM bump, anyone hear anything else on this fix? the dealer is supposed to fix this for me but my trust in dealers is pretty weak. i already located a blown fuse and changed it, still no horn, or working cruise.....
SE-R Driver 10-03-2006, 08:18 AM sounds like the same problem i have man, from what i read and searched it seems to be the clock spring. i see you live in scranton maybe we can help eachother out
zipstrips 10-06-2006, 05:04 PM the dealer found it to be the horn that is faulty. warranty work is cool! lol
SE-R2FAST 10-07-2006, 02:03 AM Before you go and take the air bag out, check the horn relay.

:) read the first post and you will see  :biggthump
S13DWS 04-08-2007, 08:25 AM Woohoo someone else with no horn.
I have my silvia and the horn doesnt work. if i take off my steering wheel and connect a screwdriver to where the steering wheel goes on and the little wee button thing thats there the horn does go. there is one plug coming from the steering wheel where the horn cover is or the center part is but there is nothing for me to connect it to and if i do poke it through the hole that is there which i assume is there for that purpose, even if there was something to connect it to, it still wont work as it will pull the plug out when i turn the wheel.
Anyone know how the horn in the 1991 Nissan Silvia PS13 is supposed to be wired up and could help me I would much appreciate it as i want my horn to go....
I know its all wired up but the button just doesnt work.
Cheers
