: Just bought a 98 200sx SE now for questions :)
sempsis101 04-23-2002, 09:59 PM Hello everyone.... I just purchased a 200sx, and I must admit that I am in love :D . (I wanted to get an se-r, but could not find one with low enough miles to fit my daily needs) It has roughly 28k miles on it and has only a minor ding on the back right panel, and the right rear taillight cover has a crack running through it! (oh and its white YUCK!)
Now on to my questions :P
1) What size wheels looks nice on the 200sx, I was thinking 16's would look nice without loosing too much performance. 17's would probably be too big. What do you guys (and gals) think?
2) I want to purchase a body kit before I paint it. (can't stand white, and I have a friend who paints cars "lucky me") Which body kit is the best for my money (both looks and quality)? I know this should be a totaly personal decision that I make, but I dont want to buy anything crappy and pay for my bad decision later. I am sure you understand
3) Can someone please give me some web addresses to places where I could purchase upgrades (such as CAI, pulleys, Headers...etc...) I am new at this, and could use any help you guys could offer.
4) Where can I buy the right rear tail-light cover at cheaply?
Any other information you guys want to speil I will be happy to read. If you feel the need to flame me for my ignorance, I understand some bastards have to take it out on others to feel good about themselves: so have at it.
Happy to have entered such a great community!
Robert

goto www.jgycustoms.com - ask for:
SR20DE - $500
flywheel and Clutch kit - 200+????
Tranny - $500
SE-R wiring harness - $150???
SE-R ecu - $100 or less on car-parts.com
SE-R axles - $100 for a pair at a junk yard
Should set you back a lil over $1500, it will give you about 30-40hp at the wheels.

Storm88000 04-23-2002, 11:53 PM You bought a 1.6..... I'm sorry.
BORNGEARHEAD 04-23-2002, 11:59 PM I personally don't think the white is a bad color. Blackout the windows and put some white 17" wheels on it. "So fresh and so clean, clean". Besides you won't see the wax buildup that you have missed over the years like on other colors.;)
Storm88000 04-24-2002, 12:47 AM I love white! I want my car to be white.
sempsis101 04-24-2002, 01:05 AM Thanks for some help guys...can anyone answer #2 or #4. As for the white, I see where you guys see the nice clean look. I like a nice shiny Metallic Hunter Green, or a sleek golden Yellow. (Now I can really see the bashing comming...LOL)

Calum 04-24-2002, 02:47 AM #2 - I'm not into bodykits, but what the hell its a 1.6, eh? Stillen isn't cheap, but I think they're the best looking kits. $1300. Polyurathane, should last.

Xenon are ok too. You can mix and match, turns out nice sometimes. Check out the Motivational Engineering car:

Cool.
#4 - Why not just get a whole new rear tail light? Try your local junkyard, should be low cost.
On a side note, check out the scc articles about project 1.6 for pointers on mods, and where to get them. Thats the motivational car. (http://www.motivational.net)
If I was you I'd skip the basic bolt-ons and save my change and get a cheap classic se-r. Or swap in a sr20 into that lil 200. Or even check out hotshot's (http://lion.esosoft.net/hotshot.com/products_turbos.htm) 1.6 turbo kit. That'd be cool. :)
Have fun.

sempsis101 04-24-2002, 03:39 AM Thank you very much for the links Calum, they have become very helpful..As for the junk yard..There aren't very many yards in Panama City, FL where I live..:( But im sure with some hard searching I will find it!
Thanks you guys,
Robert
NismoNx2000 04-24-2002, 09:57 AM If i were you, i wouldnt even concern myself at this point on a paint job and a body kit, with the money you spend on that you could easily swap an sr20de in there and then you'll have a much better setup to do body work on later. Swapping the sr20 is the only modification that is going to make a real difference in the performance of your car. Like my man said, jgycustoms can hook u up with an enging for like 500 and a tranny for like 450......if i were you, this is what i would do. And about the color, my nx2k is white, and i love it!! Good luck!! :D
Toolapcfan 04-24-2002, 11:12 AM If you decide to do the swap then consider spending an additional $1200 and get an SR20DET. That's what I'm going to do but I'm going to try to find an SE-R to save me the computer, axles, tranny and harness costs.

silverser99 04-24-2002, 12:00 PM Try getting a Primera 10:1 SR20DE I think they are $625 shipped they have 148bhp instead of 140bhp

especse_r 04-25-2002, 06:06 AM white color isnt yucky at all... but the GAY16 motor is hehe. Oh well get SR20 motor to swap.

QUiKSR20 04-25-2002, 01:01 PM I had 2 white cars and a black CRX i love my white :) always looks clean, besides that damn hood i dont know whats wrong with it always looks so damn dirty LOL! Honestly for the money skip the body kit and paint and go for the SR20 Swap ( full swap for $1500 ) you cant beat that and you will enjoy the new power the 1.6 is no comparison my mom has an XE and its a dog compared to my car by far. You will enjoy it much more than adding boltons to the 1.6 and the body kit.
sempsis101 04-25-2002, 01:27 PM Thank you for all the advise above everyone. Now for a few more questions from what I have gathered..
1) To upgrade my engine (I actually do have the money) what exactly do I have to buy (in all) I realize I must buy a new transmission and motor..but what else will need to be installed to get it running...Also if I do buy an improved motor, how will I know how many miles it has on it? How long it will last? etc... I hate to be stingy but I cannot have my car breaking down all the time becaus the engine has 150,000 miles on it...especially when i have a 1.6 with only 28k on it.
2) If I do upgrade, is it possible to keep an automatic transmission? My GF drives my car frequently and refuses to drive (or learn) a stick. If I must upgrade I guess I'll just have to do a lot of begging and groveling..LOL
3) how much is all this stuff gonna cost...and I mean realisticly...this encludes installation, tuning, parts etc....?
thanks for the help,
Robert
NonSER 04-25-2002, 01:58 PM Robert you bought a good reliable car and engine, unfortunately it's slow, especially since you have A/T... Look you have almost brand new engine and a nice car, don't tear it down and waste your money... give it your GF and buy yourself something else.. spending $2000 for all the parts and labor for extra 30 horses is not worth it... people who swap 2.0 in either have had a bad engine and decided a swap would be more economical or know where to get cheap parts and how do it yourself... you're not in either case it seems...
if you want 1.6 community is located in these forums www.b15sentra.net
