Guys, I just done doing a trial and review of the Zeitronix ZT-2 and the Pocketlogger Palm OS software to go with it. My reviews are published at www.hspn.com. The ZT-2 Review isn't up yet, but will be shortly. Check the main page of HSPN.com for updates, and news. You can read the Pocketlogger review now here. (http://reviews.hspn.com/articles/136/1) I'll update this when the ZT-2 review is done. These are two superior products that I highly recommend to anyone interested in good data acquisition on their high performance engine!

ZT-2 FTW! Everybody I know wants to buy mine.

Seriously, I don't know how people live without these anymore. Plus, the pocketlogger software eliminates the laptop lugging! You should really check it out... www.pocketlogger.com

If I had a PDA I'd be all over the pocketlogger software. But since I already have a laptop, no point in buying another way of logging the same info.

I thought the same thing, but let me just tell you how nice it is to not lug my laptop around. I mounted my palm in a little cradle and I just keep it in the car all the time. I can do a log run anytime I want w/out any hassle. It's pretty nice. Here's a cruddy picture:

Edit: boy that really is a bad picture.... I'll take a better one that shows how it sits better...

Hey Dr. what wires does one use to get the tach signal, and the TPS signal for the Zeitronix.

Dr.Fowler

What wires on the B13 ECU, or what wires on the Zeitronix? If you mean on the ECU, I'd have to look it up again, or else go rummaging through my harness...

On second thought, That's not really an option, I'll look it up.

I am thinking that the tach signal for the tach in the dash will work correct?

I'm a big fan of the zeitronix system... I just don't have the funds to buy the setup I want yet...

Yeah, should work fine. Ultimately, the tach signal for the dash comes from the ecu anyway. If you want to take them all from the ECU, it will be easier, since they're all in the same place. If you have an SAFC, the wiring colors are all coordinated, so you just tap into the safc wires, matching up the colors, it's pretty brilliant that way. Otherwise, This Thread (http://www.sr20forum.com/technical-information-library/33624-how-wire-up-your-apex-super-afc.html) shows what wires you use for what.

Tokes, I've used several wideband systems, and this is the one to get. I promise that you'll not be disappointed! Keep saving your pennies!! :biggthump

Dr. Fowler have you ever seen the PLX DEVICES DM-100 ??? I'm looking at a very cost efective wideband o2 kit..

Dr.Fowler
06-16-2007, 01:22 PM
Yeah, the $279 kit is great, and it completely capable of any addons later. The PLX is not my favorite. The addons are expensive, the software is confusing and not really user friendly, and it's capabilities are not nearly what the zt-2 has. You really won't know everything the zt-2 can do until you get one. It's really a whole lot more than just a wideband, I promise you you won't be disappointed with it.

on that kit exactly what do you get it just a wideband for now and you can add on later? such as boost, egt, etc.

What you get it the brain unit, the wideband sensor, and the computer cables and software. The unit is the same whether you buy all the add-ons right away, or later. It is capable of reading the boost sensor, egt sensor, ZAVT-1 box, or a user input of any 5v feed. It also has an absolute ton of other stuff that it can do, that you will most likely learn about bit by bit as you work with it. It's really so much more than a wideband that it deserves a different name, but there's really not another product like it on the market, as far as I know. This team of mad scientists have seriously come up with a great product.

The tach signal from the ECU is the one to use. I tried using the ignition signal and I had some problems with my ZT-2.

Really? That seems odd. then again, i don't remember which one mine is tied to, only that I found it at the ECU. It's been in there so long, I honestly don't remember.

It says it simulates a narrowband to feed to the stock ecu. Can you just use the wideband all the time in the stock narrowband location and wire the narrowband output to the ecu instead of having another bung in? If not, where are you guys mounting your wideband sensors (how far from the j-pipe)?

Dr.Fowler

No, you can't use the wideband to replace the stock o2. The Narrowband simulation is for modifying the signal that the stocker sends. You can essentially change the switching point from 14.7 to leaner or richer. It can be used to cover up a big cam idle or else for making the car run a little leaner, thus giving better cruising gas mileage.

My wideband sensor is about 6" down from the o2 housing. Getting that bung put in is easy, just drive it to any ol' muffler shop and tell them you want it done. If they can't do it in less than 15 minutes, they need to be shot! In fact, you could decide where you want it, drill a hole that will accomodate the sensor end, and then drive it to the muffler shop with a leak. That way they can't screw it up very much, as the hole will already be there.

In the instructions it states that the sensor needs to be 16" from the turbo. It also states that it must be mounted vertically or within 45˚of vertical if I remember correctly. I can't wait to get this hooked up and running right. I just need one or two more weekends of moving my stuff from my wife's house and I can concentrate on the important things in life. :biggthump
