By the way I read it, it said in the greater metro area. Most all the metro areas I see are 55 mph.

ya, no shit, I can be cruising at about 75-80 down 75 and people will be passing me like I am standing still. given 1/2 of the people passing are women putting on makeup and on the phone, but still.

  What kinda TXDOT BS is this?!? Why the hell are lowering the speed limit? It certainly won't make the roads safer, you'll always have speeders, and the cops will be spending more time catching people who happen to be cruising innocently at 10-15mph above the speed limit instead of the reckless speeders that race on public roads and other REAL hazards to the public!!!

Well the reason why they lowered the speed limit is for Emission.

Thats what i heard. They think the slower we drive the less we pollute. And this effect Houston the most ***** we use to be the Most Polluted City. So the city wanted to try and see if we could pollute less, but its not the speed you travel its the car you drive that pollutes the most. Last i heard was their going to keep it like this for a few years and slowly change it back.

 And therein lies the problem. What do they think causes more pollution? People zipping around at 70+ mph or people sitting in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic which is only increased by the constant construction?
