Installed a Progress Rear Sway Bar this weekend in my spare time. It was not as time consuming as I expected. I have very pleasantly surprised that it has improved ride comfort. Usually I try to avoid the typical city manhole bumps etc., but after going over one unavoidable one, I went for every one. Much better, a more subtle bump than the often bone-jarring one that coilovers/AGXs at 8 (I know, I should change the setting) give with the OEM bar and ES inserts.

Good stuff. I guess you probably would not have had a chance to see how it has affected the handling balance yet.

I would still recommend you get the front castor bushings if possible before you take the RA1s to the track. They will help you get the most grip from the front end, and will make the front tires last longer.

Enjoy!

Handling is smooth - I thought from comments others have made that it might be a more 'unsettling' experience than what I've seen. I've got it set at the third hole from the end, which is the stiffest setting if I read the instructions correctly. Obviously, I haven't been able to push it, but there's one nice 180 close to my house that is a good testing corner. Smooth would be the way to describe it. I'm going to TMPs open track day at the end of September. I'll have to price out the castor bushings - but I really can't afford to spend any more money on my car this fall - paying university tuition (my kid, not me) depletes the bank account - and I'm not sure I have the willpower to leave the RA1s at home.

According to this thread

http://www.sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=142392&highlight=caster+bushings

They are less than $50, although I would think it may be too late to get them for your track day. Take the RA-1s, just keep an eye on tire pressures, wear patterns, and rotate if necessary.

That's the thing - everything is just a bit more $. But I did PM Chuck. My rationalization for the rear bar is I've been planning on getting it for quite some time and I had money left in my paypal account that was from selling stuff from my part out car. But that's all gone now.
Next question, how tough is the install of these bushings?

You have to remove the front control arms, which means pulling the ball joint, loostening the sway bar link and front and rear control arm mounts. The old bushings can be a bit of a pain to remove, but some creativity and a bit of time it can be done.

I would say it could be done in an afternoon, depending on your luck, skill level and what tools you have.

How did your track day go?

Track day is this Saturday - it's an open day at TMP. I've heard of about 30 cars going. Cost is $120. If you work through Toronto Subaru Club you'll get a 10% discount. Tonight I Changed the oil, checked brake pads/fluid, pulled out the centre caps, changed the filter on my CAI - all ready to go and have fun.Forecast says rain, I haven't put any air in the Toyo's so I won't be tempted to take them with me, and I'm sure looking forward to seeing how the Progress rear sway bar works. In parking lots and other safe areas, it certainly feels like it's removed some of the understeer that was plaguing me.
Anyone else planning on going?

Great day at the lapping day. About 30 some cars there - one other Nissan. 350z. Car has less understeer with the progress bar, but I still can't push it as hard into corners as I want. Guess I'll be doing those bushings this winter, FastNX! Price is reasonable and it sounds like a fun project for a cold winter garage. (My knuckles are already starting too hurt.)
Car is an NX 1600 (the NX2K doesn't have a good suspension set up) and I was pleased with how it performed. Hung well with the traffic - well, except for the Porsche C4S, the EVO, and one or two of the STi's. There was one Honda with a 175 HP engine who filled my rear view mirror too! It was fun going back and forth with a 320 HP Mustang GT - all in all a good day. Rain held off for most of the day.
Next spring a Canadian Nissan day would be awesome!

Cool.

What tires were you using? I think a Nissan track day would be a good idea. I would prefer mid-April to do some testing before the race season starts.

Edit: I just noticed there is a db limit at TMP. There is no way the racecar would pass.

Left the Toyo's in the basement for next year - running GoodYear Eagles. I want the front end set up before I start abusing another set of tires!

Yes, TMP does have a DB limit. Some other board members got stung by that earlier this year. The ludicrous part is that yesterday they were running 1/4 mile (7.03 was the fastest I saw) and these vehicles would absolutely hurt your unprotected ears. Go Figure. The 10 second cars were good, but the 3 I saw run in the 7's were incredible.

Shannonville? Dunnville? Can the Mosport track be rented? I would love to drive that one and it'd be good practice for you and Silver SE.

I think Mosport Driver Development track would be a good place. The big track is not a good place to start learning (for people who may not have had track experience), is very expensive and hard to book when it's not snowing. The driver develpoment track is challenging and not that terribly priced.

Help for a ball joint newbie!
After checking everything out before I started pulling apart for my castor bushing install I find that my ball joints are toast. I know that Nissan will want to sell me a new control arm - and since current one has ES bushings that'll take me one bushing backwards. So my question is - after reading as many search posts as possible - is it sounds like Moog or second would be the TRW? And is a ball joint a ball joint - or are there different sizes? I may find some of these answers tomorrow morning, but will appreciate any advice you have to share.
Thanks!

There should be only one size available for your application. I would recommend against using DANA/Spicer balljoints. I installed them on my car and they had noticeable play in them after about 15 000km and only one track day.

You will have to remove all the grease and drit from around the joint to find the snap ring, and remove the snap ring before you try punching the ball joint out.

Got the Moog BJ and then cheated and had the auto parts/machine shop press them out and back together. I'll be putting it back together tomorrow if all goes well. Moog was pricey, but hopefully will last.
