Whats goin on?!? So the other day i was driving home and revved it up to 6k. Then all of a sudden the engine starts knocking and im like "wtf" so i keep the revs low. At the next stop light the engine dies when i get to a stop. I managed to make it home *** it was so close.
In the parking lot I let the car idle for a little, and the engine starts knocking whenever it gets over 1.5k. This was the first time using 89 octance instead of 92 so i dunno that might have something to do with it or maybe not. I just filled up the tank with 92, and it is still knocking like before. Anyone have suggestions on what to do, like if i should even fix it or just buy a new engine.

where is the knocking sound coming from?
If its knocking inside the block it could be a major issue. If the sound is coming from the head than it could be the lifters tapping. Completely unrelated to the change of octanes if i am correct, it could just be a coincidence that it happened with the octane change. Another thing, are you boosted? Im not 100% sure, but i do believe the det requires (?) a higher octane gas for safety reasons?
I could be completely wrong, but hoepfully its a start.

Car is 100% stock, 150k miles on the original engine. I just had the engine checked really quickly by a mechanic and he said that it has rod knock in the #2 cylinder, so here comes the det or NA JDM swap. Im really pissed though becuase I just bought the car and I havent put more than a 1000k miles on it, and the dealership said the motor was in excellent condition. Anyone know anything about the lemon law?

I dont believe there is anything you can do in your situation because its basically impossible to tell when a motor will develop rod knock.
Just remember man, every breakdown is a reason for upgrade.
When i bought my car i had rod knock on cyl #2 also, if you have a day or two you can have the car garaged you can do the rod bearing job yourself, its not difficult nor is it very time consuming. Also since it just developed the sound, you would probably have very very minimal damage if any to the crank so you could fix that motor for under 100 dollars if you can devote the time to it.
If you need any info on rod bearing swap pm me i can give you all the info i remember and maybe dig up the page on how to do it. Good luck man.

I think im just gonna buy another motor, probably from soko. This one is really really dirty, and has lots of sludge and wear up in da head. I'd rather just put the $100 towards a new engine that will last a long time.

True, i only recommended in the situation where the new motor was temporarily unaffordable. Id say go DET or VE :)
