: Clutch problem with 5spd swap
2dr_sentra 09-14-2006, 08:19 PM Im doing a 5spd swap got the tranny on, comes to find out the pressure plate is hitting the bell housing on the tranny causing the motor to not want to spin over. i asked around and couldnt get anything... any info is great.
heres the thread-

i asked there but getting no feedback
tHe iLleSt RiCe 09-14-2006, 09:01 PM i REALLY dont see how its hitting it..what clutch setup, what tb, what flywheel?

oem everything, flywheel, clutch is new but its an oem, and what is tb (throwout bearing?)
wildmane 09-14-2006, 11:42 PM Did you install a pilot bushing? And how do you know it's the pressure plate?
Did you forget the engine plate? If you forgot the engine plate and put in the pilot bushing without removing the one bushing that is in the crank shaft it could be pushing it out far enough so that it is contacting the bellhousing. When I swapped mine, I did not install the pilot bushing and I kept the one in the crankshaft. You can get the bellhousing fully on, correct? Did you line up the splines with the clutch disc and the transmission shaft correctly?
Does the engine crank? Or do you get nothing? Did you wire up the neutral position switch or swap in the manual tranmission subharness?

the torque convertor has its own bushing in the crank, so you cant use a pilot bearing just like you said.
so i didnt use the pilot bushing, i left the auto bushing.
and i just the manual engine plate, and yes i got the tranny on all the way even had to bolted on, but i put a wrench on the crank and turned it by hand and it was hitting something so, i pulled the tranny back off and the pressure plate was hitting the bellhousing, we havent wired up anything yet.
wildmane 09-15-2006, 12:07 AM You sure you put the transmission on straight? I mean... your problem is pretty freaking weird... are you absolutely sure you have the correct pressure plate? I'm not trying to insult you by asking if you bolted the parts on straight, but honestly I don't see where else it could go wrong? Are you sure you have the correct tranny?

yeah i pulled it out myself, 96 b14 tranny, i torqued the flywheel bolts down to spec, everything seemed going fucking perfect, then this happens, i had the tranny on all mounted, then it dont spin over... then i pull the tranny then it turns over fine
gEE805 09-15-2006, 12:10 AM by some weird misunderstanding u DO know the man. flywheel is different then the auto one?
wildmane 09-15-2006, 12:10 AM This is with the car in the air and the tires off, correct?

yeah i got pics and everything in the link in the first post.
Wildmane, you have AIM?

automatic has a flexplate NOT a flywheel
wildmane 09-15-2006, 12:15 AM By chance did you put on the flywheel backwards?
2dr_sentra 09-15-2006, 12:16 AM By chance did you put on the flywheel backwards?
no, definitly not. i got the resurfaced end with the clutch bolted on the resurfaced side.
98sr20ve 09-16-2006, 09:10 AM Why did not not take the bushing out of the crank? You need to rent the tool down at advance/autozone/whatever. Then put the proper 5 speed bushing in. What makes you think you are hitting the tranny? Can you see marks where this is happening?
wildmane 09-16-2006, 12:44 PM You don't need to take the bushing out of the crank. You can if you want to, but it won't affect anything in a malicious way.
I think he solved the problem, turns out he did not have the correct pressure plate for the car.
HkSBlueBird4u 09-16-2006, 02:26 PM i would have said that too... if the pp didnt fit most definaetly wrong one.. these places where we get clutches from are retards at times.. cept for murrays.
