Hey all, I'm new to the Se-r world. I recently traded in my 93' NX 1.6 for a 91 Se-r. I've been reading alot, and supposedly the sr20's are pretty damn strong. My question is...I have about $800 left over atm. I can either buy a new engine for like 600(shipped), or used my money on the exsisting engine(174k). From the looks, and the feel the engines in pretty damn good condition(other than needing like a timing belt). It was owned by an old man then passed down to his 21 year old grandaughter with a kid that drove on the highway to college, so I figure its not ragged out. It feels like the transmission is brand-new, which by the feel it pretty much has to be, its that good. Other than the roof headliner falling down its a good car. ......so, new engine or work with what I got. I get a new s2k from my parents in like 5 weeks, but they are so damn expensive to mod, so I figure keep it stock and make it my bitch car, and just have the Sentra as the sleeper beast.....
Thx

Work with what you have for now. Just use that motor up till it dies, then buy a new one. :biggthump

You have to pay to play, I am 20 and in college its hard that why there are loans and mastercards lol. Just take ur time with the mods you are not going to make a sleeper over night. Buy the motor, put it on an stand and rebuild it, babysteps

i think our cars have a timing chain, not a belt. youre 17 and you have a new s2k??? thats pretty sweet. as far as modding the nx goes, 174k is nothing for a well taken care of sr20 (i have 202k). you might want to consider doing the suspension first. when i bought my car, i blew my wad on exhaust and a stereo, and i wish i would have done suspension because my car is floaty and high as hell. anywho, good luck with your car. any pics?

Do the basic inexpensive mods first and then concentrate on suspension. The motor will last you much longer then 170K. Mines at 201000 and still going strong. I've seen one at 220K original motor still pull a low 15 at the track with basic mods.
Bump up timing, do a tune up, maybe find a pop charger or some inexpensive intake and just browse around the classifieds and group buys and look for good deals on things you can do.
