Guys-

Need some help... I got my battery relocation kit today from Summit through FedEX and the box was cracked on one of the sides... think its too late to ship back... So... my question is this... do I still need the box to mount an Optima Dry Cell battery in my trunk or because its a dry cell it doesnt need to be vented and can be installed in the trunk without a box?? Much help appreciated....

How long have you had it? Summit customer service is really good, just give 'em a call.

If not, if you got the summit brand kit, you can get a replacement box ... at your local super wal-mart. Look in the boating section for the battery box. Its the _same_ box, runs about $13 dollars, or did when I saw it about 2 years ago.

you answered your own question. Because the battery is sealed and maintenance free it dosen't need to be in a box because no gases are leaked to the outside. just be sure you have a mounting tray.
