I was told from 91-92 that the intake plenium was down low against the firewall on the SR20DE. I was also told that the intake plenium was moved up high on the 93-94 to the point it was nearly flush with the valve cover. Are these statements true? Anyone have pics of both?

Thanks!

the 93 engines look like the 91 and 92 engines, they are highports. 94 and newer engines went to lowport

How can I tell if a car has had an engine swap? I mean, outside of the obvious location of the port, is there a serial/VIN number I can locate on the engine and then match with the one on the car frame?

Thanks!

It is hard. But a kep is to look at the black box oil seperator. Onm JDM 10:1 motors they are routed different than the 9.5:1. I had to cut and modify mine to make it work. Other than that you just have to ask!

the VIN is stamped on the engine block. you can see it if you stand in front of the car, it is right where the tranny is bolted to the engine to the right of the top of the exhaust manifold heat shield.

it is stamped on the tranny too, but I don't remember where.

I was about to buy a black one and found out that I think it has had an engine swap. It was built on 12/93 and sold as a 94. However, it has the high port engine on it. I am uploading pics now. The car has a new clutch, axles, exhaust, struts and is in decent shape. Please help me out on this as I told this guy I would answer by tomorrow.

The numbers on the tranny said SR20 198704A. The ones on the body near the firewall read RC764083. The tag in the doors says this: MODEL: ABYALHF-EUA. COLOR=KH3 TRIM=G TRANS=RS5F32U AXLE=FM41 ENGINE=SR20DE 1998CC

Again, I ran the VIN number for a carfax report and car see that there is no damage to the title or other problems. However, the car has 90k, is advertised as a 94, but built in 93. The engine looks to be a highport which makes me think it's been swaped out. The seller can't tell me as they bought it from an auction.

Can anyone help? I am going to post pics of the engine this afternoon.

Thanks!

Here's a shot of the engine:

Here's a shot of the tag in the door. What's going on with this car?

Again, it's advertised as a 94' with a build date of 12/93. The odometer says it has 89k. The problem is that the engine appears to be from a 91-93. Now maybe because it was built in 93, this was one of the last engines they used that year before switching to low port for 94'. Or, there was an engine swap. Anyone????

Thanks!

No, that's a low port engine. That's the right engine for a 94. And if it was made in 12/93, then it is definitely a 94. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

This is a picture of my 91 engine. Notice that the fuel rail is on top, not the intake, which is opposite of your motor. You can see my intake piping coming in from the right side and going into the motor underneath the fuel rail, which is how it is with high port motors. Yours is obviously a 94+ low port motor because your intake is on top, and your fuel rail is underneath it.

so given those pics, would you buy that car for $3995. A 94 with 90k, new clutch, front rotors and brakes, new axles and front struts? It needs tranny switches replaced, headliner repaired and the trunk seals need replaced---I think.

Given that, what do you think?

BTW---how do you repair that leaky trunk that these cars get?

I would say thats too much. Its an auction car, the miles are great, but you don't know its maintainence history. I'd rather have a higher mileage car with a documented past. Quite frankly I'd go $2500, 3000 tops.

Usually its the tail lights. Check out se-r.net, this page. (http://www.se-r.net/car_info/problems/index.html#Water%20in%20your%20trunk) Look for the water in trunk section.

Lift up the trunk
Get some silicone and go around the tailight housing on both sides of the vehicle.
Real simple.

Zak,

I just have to say that that is a sharp looking setup you got there. Did F-MAX do that turbo piping for you? And also, What kind of fuel rail is that and where did you get it? Did you get it cause you had to run bigger injectors?
