: Is this bad?
shumax 04-28-2002, 02:41 PM It's the under shot of the tranny with 90k. The clutch was just replaced so I am hoping it's oil from when they did the clutch. Can any of you experts give me some input?

92_Sentra 04-28-2002, 03:09 PM That looks like your transmission switches are leaking, it is something you can fix yourself. Mine were bad a while ago but I fixed them with my dad. Go here...
http://www.sr20de.net/zotz/se-r_tran_switches.htm
that is what I used to do mine. If you have any questions Instant Message me on AOL, my sn is JED2185, or just email me at spcboy21@tampabay.rr.com
Rittmeister 04-28-2002, 03:11 PM I hate to say this but it looks like that switch is leaking. There's another one under there and it might also be leaking. They actually come in contact with the oil in the tranny, which is why they have that rubber boot on them. Basically, the adhesive that holds the boot to the switch doesn't last as long as the switch, and when it fails the switch leaks.
The two of them are about $35 from Courtesy (that's for both, not each), and if you're going to change one you might as well do both - you have to drain the tranny to do it. I did this a few weeks ago on my 94. I was afraid of it but it didn't end up being a big deal. Just be prepared to get dirty, and set aside several hours. There are how to's on SE-R.net for this procedure.
This is also a good opportunity to put in new gear oil. Make sure to use GL-4, NOT GL-5 or anything that says GL-5 ANYWHERE on the bottle.
Hope this helps.
Rittmeister 04-28-2002, 03:12 PM Doh! Typing at the same time, it seems.
92_Sentra 04-28-2002, 03:14 PM its all good man :D
shumax 04-28-2002, 03:22 PM Now---I am not doubting you at all. However, if I am buying this car, I wan't to be sure it's not the rear main seal. Can you assure me it's not that? They did the clutch about 500 miles ago and so I would think they would have fixed that while they were in there.
Thanks!

92_Sentra 04-28-2002, 03:40 PM the oil is leaking out of where the switches connect. That is right where mine were leaking before i fixed the problem. Now i have no problem
shumax 04-28-2002, 04:00 PM Like I said, I don't want to second guess anyone. I just need to be sure on it. I have found this guys site that was posted above to be GREAT. I wish I had known about it sooner.
If anyone wants to see more pics of the car I am looking to buy, go here:

I could use feedback. It's a 94 with 90k, new clutch, axles and front struts as well as plugs. It's had rust on the rear wheel well that was fixed decently. However, they broke the paint line in the crease that is in the fender---resulted in a rough edge that would need to be polished a bit. Reagardless---it's rust and it will come back
:(
It also has a cracked front lip and a broken for light. It has a sagging headliner with water stains from a leaking sunroof. Finally, the trunk is leaking a bit as the spare and carpet have been removed. The asking price was $5000. I think that's high for the "issues" it has.
Thoughts?
Rittmeister 04-28-2002, 05:29 PM With those problems, that is high. I got mine two years ago, same model year, same mileage (at the time) for $4000 (probably paid too much), and it had ZERO body problems. Needed axles shortly thereafter, but those are cheap compared to body stuff.
92_Sentra 04-28-2002, 05:30 PM Man that is way too high. What is all of that on the valve cover?? I think $4,000 would possibly be an alright price to go with, but that may even be too high.
SENTRASER 04-28-2002, 05:37 PM That car looks like shes rusted everywhere....I myself wouldn't buy that, having gone through buying a rusty car and not liking it one bit, plus its black...offer him $2000 for the car if you really want it, rust rust rust......:(
shumax 04-28-2002, 05:49 PM We went back and forth on it and he came down to $3995. Again, the only rust on the car is what you see on that spot on the door. The spot on the rear wheel well was repaired. However, I know it will eventually come back. As best I can tell, the repair was done dencently. I think I can fix the sagging headliner on my own. The fact that it has 90k, a new clutch, drive axles, front struts, front brakes and new plugs makes it real tempting. The crack in the front lip is down low and not noticable unless you are within 2" of the lip. I don't know....I hate these choices. :(
I need more input:D
SmoothDaddyFig 04-28-2002, 07:20 PM $5,000!!!!!!!!!!
Someone was on Crack.
I wouldnt pay over $3,500 if I really wanted it bad.
I paid $2,995 for my 94 SE-R.
But if you really think you can hack it AND YOU REALLY WANT IT, then go for it.
Is this a second car?
project car?
shumax 04-28-2002, 07:28 PM I have a company car---2k1 Impala--YUK
96 Dodge Avenger ES---perfect shape---wife's car---semi-yuk
Honda S2K--red with black top---store it and never drive it.-YUM!!!
The SR20DE Sentra would be nothing more than a car to mess around with. I am going to race it in the SCCA classes locally and that's it. Based on the new cluthc, axles, brakes and struts I am starting to think it's a decent deal. I would really only have to fix the headlines, and the rust on the bottom of the door. Those are both things I can easily do. The leaky trunk seems common and also something I can fix. Spend about $200 in parts and it's at least above average then with 89k on the clock.
Thanks!

I have a good headliner if you need it, it has the sunroof hole cut out...the rust on the doors might be a problem though...I have two black doors! You wanna work out a deal? e-mail me at slogypoop@aol.com

shumax 04-28-2002, 08:43 PM I got a quote of $40 for a used headliner already. I also found a couple of black doors at a salvage yard online for $50 each--both rust free and with glass. I don't have power locks or windows. Let me know what you think and where you are located.
Thanks!
