4)Black / Orange
5)Brown / Yellow

Here's what I used on the ones I built:
ATEK------------------ DB9:
Pin 8 Violet ---------- Pin 1 = TX = RED
Pin 9 Gray ----------- Pin 2 = RX = ORANGE
Pin 14 Red/Wht ---- Pin 3 = IGN = YELLOW
Pin 1 Black ---------- Pin 5 = CLK = BLUE
The DB9 I used was:
1 = RED
2 = ORANGE
3 = YELLOW
4 = GREEN
5 = BLUE
6 = VIOLET
7 = GRAY
8 = WHITE
9 = BLACK

Hrm... how can I verify which wire goes to which pin? I have a belkin F2N209-06-T db9 cable... looks like it was a male to female. Belkin says it is used for serial mouse, CGA/EGA video monitor, or any other device with DB9 connectors, if that makes any difference.
edit: Can I tell with a multimeter? The only thing is my leads are too big to fit into the pins...

Looking into female connector (or back of male one, ie atek)

Yes, I have one, but I don't know what wires to splice between the DB9 and Atek.

I used: ATEK to DB9 female - 'black box' - male DB9 to USB adapter.
Insert DB9 male to female extension cable as needed.
Check continuity between pins using the multimeter.
You can use a paper clip since the lead from the multimeter won't fit.
The pin # is labeled on the serial connector - see pic below.
For this connector it is top row, right to left, pin 1 through 5,
then bottom row, right to left, pin 6 through 9.

Thanks, I figured it out today. It turns out the multimeter was actually touching, it just didn't seem like it. It was all the wires I thought it was, but the colors were a little different. I think every DB9 cable is different. I just spliced the wires, and soldered them together and wrapped everything in duck tape. I have two lights that light up, but my usb adapter is giving me trouble. I have another, I just haven't had time to try it yet.
Thanks for the help.
