I just got my boost controller installed tonight. I set the balance knob to sharp and never touched it. What difference does this make and those of you who use this controller what do you set your balance to?
Please list your engine (DE or DET,etc) and options (Fmax kit, etc) and any other significant advice/info you may have with the Profec.
Thanks.

I've tried both mild and sharp, over and over. I can not feel any difference between the two settings. Both lag and power seem to stay constant. MAybe I have it hooked up wrong?? I don't think so, but may be a possibility.

Oh gosh it's easy! Just remember that the profec B's 'motor box' needs a larger than normal vacuum hose (6mm versus the standard 4mm) for it's job. That means where you tap for it needs to be big, preferably dedicated only to it. Furthermore it does NOT need to see vacuum so anywhere in the intake piping from the compressor to the intake manifold (manifold included) would be fine. I put mine in my compressor housing. I can take some pics if you'd like?
Another tip would be to make sure you connected the reference line from the Profec head unit with or near where the boost gauge is connected. I tee'd into my boost gauge because I wanted to see exactly what the Profec was seeing.
Another tip, don't use those sucky clamps Greddy sent with it. Go out and either by worm clamps or even better fuel injection style band clamps found at NAPA and Discount Auto parts outlets. You can *EASILY* pull the lines off the motor box with the Greddy clamps installed...which is NOT a good thing here!! :) In addition to that the motor box nipples are brass but painted gloss black and because of that they allow good clamps tightened all the way down to slip easy off as well. So this is what you do, (I figured this out myself) take a knife and scribe several lines parallel with each other around the nipples (not up and down obviously) so that the hoses have some surface to 'grab'. Once I did this I could not BUDGE the hose. I wouldn't have believed what difference it made until I tried it. This is the best piece of advice I can give you because I have not seen it anywhere else and the worst thing you'd want is to add a leak to your system, ESPECIALLY at the device that is responsible for controlling boost!!
If you find my idea useful give me some props if featured!
Good Luck.

My SE-R came with the optional boost controller instead of the ashtray. :) And yes it is mounted there, I made brackets for it to bolt in like it was made for it. It uses the existing factory ashtray mounting holes/nuts. I like my stuff mounted permanently, not just wedged or stuck in place.

Compressor housing tap for motor box. Convenient and effective.

It is optimal to have the motor box as close to the wastegate as possible and in an area that is away from heat. Here was my choice:

And this same weekend I put in S3 cams and chunked the stock cams. How does your engine look with Mobil 1 after 55,000 miles? Here is an example. My father broke out the camera on this one because he was so impressed.

Enjoy.
PS I also installed a Greddy catch can.. More pics on that and the custom bracket I made and had powdercoated soon....
