You guys are going to hate me for this one...but don't worry! I haven't converted!! This is my winter beater, and I am putting my classic B13 rims on it anyways ;)

I picked up a '92 Red Civic DX hatch for a killer deal. My buddy blew the head gasket on the old motor, and bought a '95 D15 from his brother to replace it. He then bought a different car, so sold it all to me....anyways.

When trying to re-attach the tranny, a dowel pin on the bellhousing got stuck and ended up cracking the case when we "forced" it a little...heh. So, I decided to dump the auto and convert it to 5 speed, as the transmission would be cheaper, and it would be a bit more fun to drive.

And then I got into "upgrade mode"

I ended up buying a SI tranny for the better gearing. Then, I ran across a sick deal on a vtec head, and decided that doing a "Mini-me" swap (z6 vtec head on a 1.5 block) would make the car a bit more fun. Throw in some ARP head studs, cometic head gasket, a SS header and intake, and I am suddenly builing a pretty snotty civic. lol.

anyways, here are some picts.

Getting read to pull the stock head.

Look @ how clean the cylinder walls are! No scoring, no weird buildup on the pistons....

Great stuff man. I had a CRX back in High School it was a 91 SI and I loved it! That mini me swap can really make some balls power! Bump for pics of the car!

What exactly is the motor capable of putting out? Better yet, what kind of times in the car? I'm sure they are probably nothing crazy but can't expect a lot from a 1.5L.

excuse my idiototic question here: but how does the headgasket work on that engine?

I miss my old '89 Rio Red CRX. It was a great car. I thought it was reliable.

Don't worry guys....the classic is still my baby. In fact, I just got a box full-o-goodies from GregV in the mail today. The way its looking right now, I might order my AD22VFs and Maxima rears this week for her...;)

If it wasn't a winter beater, I would of swapped out the pistons and thrown in a JDM B15 vtec cam and made about 150 whp out of her. The work involved just won't be worth my time though....I am focusing on reliablity over performance here.

1/4 mile times should be in the 15s....not bad for a 1.55 liter. It won't touch the classic though....the classic will be lighter, more power, and LSD. I'm hoping for mid 14's once I break her in a bit.

The head gasket works the same with any other car....it seals the head and the block, keeping the oil, coolant, and compression from leaking. is that what you are asking?

I'll get some pictures of the car up within the next few days...including the genuine, police 9mm slug hole in the driver door :eek2: (thats a story for another day)

cmotek-

I'm sorry we never met up buddy. This whole working full time/senior @ the RIT is really killing me and did so over the summer as well. I honestly touched the SE-R once in July and once in August. I haven't been there to work on it since.

The cool thing about the mini me swap is that you get the 1.6 vtec head, and while you lose 1/10th of a liter of displacement, you get a higher comp ratio and make the same power or even more. My electrical engineer roommate is helping tune the ECU with some goodies to maximize output. Combined with those B13 rims, its gonna be ballin and still get 30 mpg.

Ahh...I gotcha on the head gasket thing. I didn't mean to assume you didn't know what a HG...lol. Yeah, honda uses that really weird design. If I remember correctly, the bottom of the head is flush, so the coolant just kind of chills against the bottom of the head. A lot of honda guys put in aluminum block savers that seal off that open area around the cylinder sleeves and increase the integrity of the motor. I had the HG shipped to my buddies house (the fuck I know about these Honduh's anyways??) so I haven't actually seen it yet. I'll get some pictures of it.

Yo Bes- you are bringing the classic down to W. NY this summer, aight?

Nice little project you got there.

You know whats crazy, a b18 in a first gen crx. My buddy had one In New York that thing was SICK even when it was all stock. completetly gutted that thing pulled like crazy :eek2:

honestly fo rsome reason mini me swaps seem faster then a stock sr20. I don't know why but it really does. I like SOHC.

A mini me would probably be faster than a bone stock USDM Sr20, yes. Its outputting roughly the same power as a stock usdm sr20. The difference being, the sr will get more performance per upgrade than the mini-me. This head was off a car that gave my buddy's QR25 a run for its money.

I'll get some more pictures up tonight, if I end up working on the car.

You should be more than happy with that mini-me frankenstein ;) Like puttin' a VTEC head on an LS block in a 'teg :D Those were the days!
