Ok still trying to figure this out.....

What cars did/didn't have this knob or did they all and two I've been in were missing it?????

Ok just remembered tonight....

My '93 NX with AC and power package has the knob
The '92 I sold with AC no power package does not
the '91 I was in didn't have it either, but had AC...

So should the '92 with AC have it? There is no knob but I don't see a lever in there either????

Are you talking about that knob between the two central air vents?

my 91 classic, and both 93 NX's i have, as well as NismoNX2000's '92 have that knob, if that's what you mean. They all have a/c installed.

I dunno, its the upper left corner knob, there are only two choices, air from in the car, or air from outside the car....

Dunno what its called.

That's a recirculation lever, if you're refering to the lever that is adjacent to the temerature setting lever. If you have AC then you definitely have a recirculation lever. When you have the AC on you are supposed to have it on the recirculation setting. When the air is off and you just have the fan on you are supposed to have it on the outside-air setting. Both my '93 SE-R and '93.5 G20 have it (Both have AC).

What my SE-R has that my G20 doesn't have is some type of air knob between the two center air vents.

ahh, the recirculation lever. i thought you might have meant that but you said knob. ah well.

anyway, all the cars i mentioned before have that too. and, come to think of it, every car i've had or seen has had some version of that lever.

ok, this might put some of your questions to sleep. i'm pretty certain all the car mentioned have them. the issue is, they're all very fragile. mine is broken, my buddy's is broken and he's read a lot about people with broken 'reciuculating' switch knobbies. so maybe the fell out after they broke?

The knob between the two air vents is only in a limited amount of cars. Like I said, it is only in my SE-R. My G20 doesn't have one. And yes, frankly it's a piece of shit. Mine has broken everytime I've had to take the dash apart to get at the CD player, switches, etc. However, the recirculation LEVER, which is below the fog lights/rear defroster/hazzards switches, is in all cars I would suspect (definitely in all of those with A/C).

mauiblue,

I can see my lever breaking soon. Lately it takes a stupid amount of effort to move.

Since we're talking about recirculation levers... Mine doesn't work. It's stuck on "outside". It won't budge to "recirc". I don't wanna force it, but I've pushed pretty hard. I've had my car over 2 years, and it's always been that way (i've gotten used to it). Any ideas how to fix that?

Thats not always true. Once you get the car cooled down it's best to move the lever over to outside air. Constantly, running the AC with the recirc on can lead to mold and stuff building up in the system. It can also cause the air quality inside the car to be poor.

I wasn't aware of that. However, I think I've used the AC in my car for a long period of time only about a handful of times over a 3 year period. Basically, I'll only use it when it's a good amount over 90 degrees out, and once it cools down in the car, the AC goes off, the windows go down, and the moonroof opens. :D

Best way to fix sticking levers are to lube the pivot where the cable ends up or possibly reseat the cable at the hold-down next to the duct door it operates(the hold-down eats at the cable lining, allows the entire cable-lining & cable- to move together, hard on the levers breaking them(the doors' springs are alot stronger)
For Sentras, the 2 common one breaking:
The hot/cold mix door right above the ecu
The Recirc door is buried in the upper right corner of dash, best way to get to it is to remove the WHOLE dash- w/the glove box removed you can see it but its tight.
This was pretty common w/most Nissans(w/this AC/heat set up)
that I worked on.
