I am not a expert but I believe you will need the ECU from a 96 since it is a lowport.
Maybe a 94 up ECU will also work

yes it will bolt up, yes you can swap heads and manifolds (youll need to do both, i think you can keep the exhaust but intake has to be changed with the head) and no you do not need the ecu from a 96 if you use a 96 engine. ecu has nothing to do with highport/low port.

He is swapping a OBD 2 engine into a OBD 1 car.

so? if he swaps over the exhaust manifolds hell have no problem. the engine has nothing to do with the emissions. its not like hes swapping it into 87 sentra. as long as you keep all the obd 1 stuff functioning (swapping exhaust manifolds) youll be fine.
to swap intake manifolds youll have to swap heads. im not sure how much help that would be though, because it seems the lowports take better to mods.

If the 96 motor is odb2 the harness will not plug into the comp. The connetors are different. And some of the senser's are not the same.

stolen from se-r.net:

Nissans OBD-II system uses two oxygen sensors, one controls closed loop operation (when O2 sensor readings are used to automatically adjust the air- fuel ratio under light cruise conditions) and the other is used to gauge catalytic converter effectiveness and light off time.

i would guess the OBDI O2 sensor is in the exhaust manifold and the OBD II has the same thing plus the O2 sensor after the cat.

thanks. that was what i was saying (about obd1 atleast). so in order to make it obd 1 complaint, just swap exhaust manifolds. and im pretty sure you can bolt a de head to a bb det block
