:) Now I could be asking this question in a biased site but I seem to have gotten interesting opinions on whether the KA is better than the SR20DET ( silvia S14 ). If u ask me I say the SR20 is better but I'm sure that theres quite a few out there that think different for what ever reason. What do u guys think and why??
( for some reason this comparisons brings alot of debate ;) )

:) Some people say that the KA is better since its bigger. I of course differ in that opinion but I do think the KA would be a good All motor choice. Its not bad but it also isn't an SR20.

SR20 = less money to go faster

KA24 = more displacement, slower for the most part

Actually you can get pretty wild with parts on the SR. But for the same money involved in both I say SR. I am kinda partial though. :p I love my SR and it's butter smooth.

who would win in a race between a 240 with a stock ka24 or a 200 or sentra with a stock sr20de?

I think perhaps the 240. They make real good torque and are not that heavy. Ka24de=155hp SR20de=140hp. Of course there are a lot of factors that can swing it either way. :D

Perhaps it could swing either way, I still believe the SR would win. Maybe I am a little bit biased, but still alot might depend on holeshot and other factors.

Anyone know the stock quarter times for a SE-R?

If I'm not mistaken its around 15.7/15.8.

Non-number-related problem with the KA24: It doesn't rev happily. It moans and feels like a 40lb. flywheel is attached. And for the most part, it sounds a wee bit like a truck engine (that could ne psychological).

I raced a 95 240SX back whe my SE-R was stock, and it was pretty even, but given a race past 80mph, I think I would have crawled away.

Wow was not aware that the stock SE-R would do 15 sec quarters. The stock 240 runs like 16's!!! Which one was faster the classic or 200sx? I don't know how the KA feels. My first mod was a DET. :D

I saw a hardbody truck with a built KA engine (NA) at a local Nissan dealer. 280+hp and 13 second 1/4 time was its spec. Not bad. For a 240sx one major benifit is the weight you lose with a sr20. It will handle better as a result.

The ka block vs sr block is heavy yes but when you add the manifolds/turbo/heatsheilds and such they actually weigh pretty close. The sr setup is still lighter but not as much as you think. Still it's enough for most people to see a larger wheel gap in the front. :p

Drive both the KA24 and SR20 NA, you'll see the driveability differerence.

Yeah when it comes to the KA u have to begg a company to make a part just to have another part break because the KA isn't made for extreme tuning. I'm surprised to not have any die hard KA people jump on yet. I asked this same question in a Aussie nissan site ( keep in mind they don't get the KA ) and KA fans were beating me down I had to fight off 3 of them but I got them all to say the SR is better in the end :p
