What causes squeaking belts? When I installed the JDM back in November '05, I put new NAPA belts on. The OEM's were about double price. Now I am having horrendous squealing, and I get a different, worse squealing when I turn on the A/C. It used to just be at idle on first start, now it is constant. Do the belts just need replaced or could there be something seized up?
I tried tightening the adjuster bolt on the alternator, but now I'm at a point where I feel it's too tight. I had a problem previously with this belt slipping, and came to find out the bolt had worked itself out. No more problems with that now though.
My moms hardbody pickup squeels like that, but when I tighten the belts more I feel like they are going to break. I have added nothing usefull to this post.

is oil leaking onto the belts?
If they are squealing that usually means they either are too loose or need to be replaced.

ok it could be one of the bearings on any of the pullies. i'm currently chasing down a screetch from 3k up. i changed both belts. nothing. did the wp. nothing. what you need to do is.....start the car. spray with wd40. if the noise goes away when you spray, then you most likely need new belts. if they still squeal when your spraying them, then they need to be tighter. i hope this helps man.

I'll throw in my two cents.
I had a similar problem, It turned out that the Crank Pulley seperated. The pulley it self was what was making the noise.
When you turn on the AC it puts more resistance on the belt causing the outer part of the pulley to spin slower than the inside. This would also cause the belt to spin slower. When it happened to me, my car dies on a few rainy days because the alternator wasn't charging porperly.
If your car is still charging fine off the alternator your pulley should be good, but it's always good to check it out.
p.s. When the pulley started to seperate the PS/WP Belt was torn apart and was down to 3 ribs because it was rubbing on the pulley.

Hey Kyle what's been happening?
Kyle normally the squeeling is caused by dried out belts, loose belts, or bad bearings. If you want to check for bearing problems removed the belt and try to spin each of the pulleys, if they each spin easily, then your bearings are good. Check the belts for cracks and dryness then.
