: problem...
metro_se-r 05-01-2002, 11:33 AM On the way home yesterday from work, my "brake" and "battery" lights started simoltenuosly going on and off like a christmas tree. They would stay on for a while, then go off. Then come on again and flicker. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
Sr20kidD 05-01-2002, 11:46 AM check Alternator. and your battery.
Mike sr20de 05-01-2002, 03:13 PM when my alternator went out it was doing this.
Dswtflip4u 05-01-2002, 03:17 PM I bet you it is the alternator.

another vote for the alternator
metro_se-r 05-01-2002, 11:10 PM Thanx guys. This alternator is going to cost me a fortune. Today on the way from school, 30 miles from home, the ABS and Airbag lights went on as well, and the next thing I know the car died. It would start with jumper wires, but would die again in a matter of ten seconds. Also my passenger side headlight went out, but when I checked the bulb itself it was ok. The towing itself cost me $150. I just hope its the alternator and not the ECU.
civicdragon 05-02-2002, 01:08 AM My alternator is fucked up too. I guess this is pretty common on SER's?
Where the hell is hopatcong, NJ I also live in NJ... if you can wait a week or so I can help you with the install
metro_se-r 05-03-2002, 04:27 AM civicdragon,
Hopatcong is right on the border of Morris and Sussex counties, in the northwest. Where are you located?
I appreciate the fact that you offered help with the installation, but this stuff is pretty easy and I'm capable of doing it myself. What sux though, is the fact that the car was already towed to a shop because it would not move. And because I couldn't move it and bring it home, I had to let the shop take care of it. basically I'm throwing money down the drain, but I had no choice when all of this went down. hope no one has to deal with bullsh!t like this. if the lights go on, don't even think about it, change the damn alternator. the faster the better.
once again though, thanx for the offer.
Dswtflip4u 05-03-2002, 07:28 AM I would say call Andreas Miko. I got a used one from him for about 65 bucks i think. NEVER BUY ONE FROM AUTOZONE OR SOMEWHERE ELSE. I bet you it will go out very quickly. If you can buy a new OEM one from nissan. It is worth it. I have heard people change their alternator 2 or 3 times in one week. You were running only on your battery. When the battery drained, your car died. I was lucky, this happened to me when my car was in the garage when I was going to work.

REBUILT alternator - $220
new battery - $80
labor - $65
oil change - $20
Driving my SE-R back from the shop - PRICELESS
domiguy 05-04-2002, 04:55 PM Wow, that's a lot of money, I hope that's an OEM nissan for that price. But yeah, the flashing battery light is an indication that your alternator is about to go bye-bye and it would be a good idea to change it ASAP, and not put it off (and make sure you don't use your radio or anything that would drain the battery)... because you would probably only be running on the battery or your battery getting very little charge... and once your battery dies, that's it, and it won't be charged by turning on your car.
BORNGEARHEAD 05-04-2002, 06:28 PM Check your battery connection too. Mine came loose and I had the same symptom.
