: New to NX2000's - Got a problem
Rexxrally 10-18-2006, 07:06 PM Hello all. I bought a 91 NX2000 just recently. Very cool little car.
I have a slight problem with mine, though. I hope all you NXperts can help me out. When I'm slowing down, coming up to a red light, I take my foot off the gas and let it drop to idle.
The problem is, it drops waaaay too far. It drops to approx 250 rpm. Then, it either comes back up to idle around 800-900 or else it stalls the car. Far too often, it stalls the car, so I end up trying to blip the throttle as I'm rolling to a stop. Really annoying.
I've never seen this problem with any previous cars, so I'm in the dark.
Is there some common problem with an NX that makes this car do this? Your help would be immensely appreciated.
STRATTON 10-18-2006, 07:14 PM its a common problem with the sr20 motors. clean the tb, possibly your idle needs to be adjusted via the adjuster screw.
a vaccum leak would also cause this, pop the hood and see if you hear and vaccum leaks, especially the pcv hose off the back of the vc, happened to me a few times.
stratton.
Bobster 10-19-2006, 12:51 PM I have had the same problem for years. Where is the adjuster screw?
thanks, Bob
vstolyarov 10-19-2006, 05:25 PM It looks like an (X) black made out of plastic, top left corner on the engine bay, also good to check spark plugs, clean egr, my little metal tube going from header was clogged up, check timing.
If all that doesn't work, you'll need to reground your mass airflow sensor. My car had the divebombing idle until I did that - solder a wire to the centre pin when you peel back the rubber at the MAF connection, ground to the intake runners.

Same here, alot of the nx's has old hoses, best thing to do is replace all hoses, and fluids, when you first get the car. Also replace the rusted exhaust to keep the idle right and stop backfireing.
Rexxrally 10-22-2006, 09:48 PM I'm going to try all of the above, just as soon as I get my car back from the Nissan dealer. It died on me today when I was out at an event, and we couldn't get it started again.
A couple of guys at the event are mechanics so they looked at it for me, to try and get me back in the game, but to no avail. The car is getting lots of fuel (emphasize the word LOTS) and is getting spark. It's cranking like crazy but doesn't show any signs at all of catching.
The spark plugs are wet so it's obviously getting too much fuel. We removed the fuel pump relay, and the car starts!!!! It idles, but you touch the gas, and it dies. Put the fuel pump relay back in, and it won't start at all.
The mechanics figure the PCV valve is shot and feeding enough fuel vapours to make it idle. None of them have ever seen a car start and run without the fuel pump relay in place.
So, I think (among other things) the fuel pressure regulator is shot, the PCV valve is shot, the spark plugs needed replacing (we did that today), and maybe some vacuum lines are cracked/broken/unattached/attached incorrectly by previous owner.
So, I'm going to get the Nissan dealer to go over everything. I want them to put everything under the hood back in proper working order, since they probably know better than anybody what "proper working order" looks like.
SENTRASER 10-28-2006, 12:30 PM Also, the IACV (idle air control valve) can be gummed up, need to be cleaned with some carb cleaner. Fouled plugs, and bad injector o-rings I bet are what are going to be replaced. Anyway, check your EGR too.
