: High-Flow Cat Question
Chris93SER 05-02-2002, 03:37 PM What companies make high-flow catalytic converters for a classic SE-R? Those of you who have them, are they worth the money, do they affect the sound of the exhaust note any, and what are the performance gains? It's time for me to replace my cat I think and I'm considering getting a high-flow one, rather then going with an OEM replacement. Thanks a lot guys.
Edit: One last question. Is there an increase in NOx emissions as a result of having a high-flow cat?
SmoothDaddyFig 05-02-2002, 04:48 PM I have some generic High Flow Midas brand cat.
It was $97.
I didnt feel any slower after I got it.
Its real small. I wonder if it even works.
I want to take it off, to be honest.
That 1 hp is calling me!!!!
NismoNx2000 05-02-2002, 05:01 PM This has been discussed before, but stick with the oem cat, it has a 2.5" opening, and the flow is actually very good. You can always go with a random technologies cat, but im sure you will end up spending more on that. You will most likely not feel any kind of gain going with a high flow cat, due to the fact that the oem one has very good flow.
Sr20 B12 05-02-2002, 07:04 PM What about 3" cat's? Who makes them that can be cleanly runned on the Se-r. I don't like a lound car so a gutted cat is out of the question. Plus my car will have to take the smog, but it will pass regardless (my father friend will be doing it).:D

Dude I got the same thing from my boy... they actually work better. It's rather small but that Mofo does it's job for a brooke ass foo like me.
LOL
Chris93SER 05-03-2002, 12:17 AM Alright, thanks for the replies guys. I'm just going to go with an OEM replacement since it has a 2.5" opening and the flow is known to be pretty good. I believe I've read that before, now that you've mentioned it Nismo. Thanks again.
NismoNx2000 05-03-2002, 09:28 AM No problem dude, glad i could help. If you cant find an oem cat for a decent price, then you might want to hook up a catco high flow cat. You can probably pick one up for less then 100 bucks, and it has a lifetime warranty i believe. Check out A-1 performance.com....they have em.
Chris93SER 05-03-2002, 02:59 PM Alright, thanks. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Actually you are wrong here. I am running the random tech cat, and it flows good if not better than OEM. I think mike K tested it somewhere, i could be wrong. As for price, the Dealer cat when i called was like $500-$700 I dont remember. The random tech one was like $150. I know the OEM is alot more....
NismoNx2000 05-03-2002, 04:15 PM Thats true, im sure it costs quite a bit for an oem cat, but if its simply about replacing because he wants a performance increase then i would just keep what you have. But if the cat is done for and needs replacing, then go with a random tech or catco *** they will be cheaper. ;)
