I am having some trouble having my cigeratte lighter to work. I don't smoke or anything, I just want to have the option to use a cell phone on it w/o using its battery. So far here's the problem:

Eveytime I push the lighter in I could hear the cig lighter fuse literally pop in the fuse box. I think it is a 7.5 fuse but i've also tried all different kinds up to 15 and they've all bursted. I'm an electrically challenged person, so all help is appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like it is grounding out somewhere...you'd need to get at it and see what is up. Does it do this when you plug your phone in.? or just the cig lighter

I've never really tried the phone when the fuses pop, I've always tried the lighter only. I'll give it a try.

Oh yeah, it was working before I installed my new cd deck, so maybe I messed up somewhere there. So grounding? I'll doublecheck everything tomorrow. Thanks

well, i dont smoke, so its really no problem for function, the hole is kinda tacky, but i'll just call it a minor weight reduction!!!:D

Thanks for you help guys... I've finally tracked down the problem. Ever since I bought my car it didn't have a lighter. So I stole the one from my dad's old 1983 Toyota truck and stuck it in. It worked fine for about a month. Then when I installed my CD deck, it started going bad. I concluded that it was my installation of CD deck that was causing the fuse to pop.

Out of frustration, I went to Autozone and bought some 15A mini-fuses (I have been using my spares and others that has been lying around the garage ranging from 7.5A to 20A but not 15A) hoping it was just because it didn't have the recommended 15A. While I was there, I picked up a new lighter (the one that heats up and pops out) also hoping for a long shot. I put a new 15A fuse in, and the new lighter, and what happened? The friggin thing lighted up! I finally concluded that the old Toyota lighter is somehow malfunctioned and causes my fuse to blow! All the time tracking down loose wires and ground wires, I've could have just bought a damn new lighter!

BTW, I didn't try the cell phone plug because I don't have one yet, and am just thinking about getting one. Otherwise I think it would have lit up anyways. I just assumed it was broken because the lighter didn't work.
