The 5th gear popout is when ur 5th gear wont stay in 5th gear. This is not a modification or anything that helps the car, its just something u have to fix, or u dont if u dont like using 5th gear.

its the one major flaw of nissan to build cheap ass trannys. I have it in my 1992, and refuse to fix it. I dont drive far to work, and its like $1000-1500 to fix, from what i heard.

Bottom line, it sucks!!! :(

I've got a G20 and it's just started doing it. It's only done it about 4 times in the past two months. It supposedly happens when your shift forks get bent/worn, which typically happens when someone (typically commuters) keeps their hand resting on the stick over long periods of time. Mine just kind of happened out of nowhere, since I was warned of this and only touch the stick when I shift. I've got a theory that it could also be from worn torque mounts. When I let off/hit the throttle my stick shifts a lot, caused by the old/broken/torn/worn torque mount. I'm going to replace those and see how it works. To prevent it, keep your hands off your stick until you have to shift. If you're driving the way it should be driven you should be concentrating on steering anyway. :D Hope that helps a bit.

so replacing the torque mounts is what stops that vibrating the stick does?? and if so, how much do these run and where can i get some?

The thing that causes this was a nissan thing with some of the part's in the tranny. It was supposed to be fixed in 94 but mine did it. Oh and I had the JWT mount's in at the time too:rolleyes:

The torque mount was just a theory I had that I was going to test. Thanks for the info, James.
