How would one install lexan windows on owns car. Is it legal for everyday use? such as dai ly driving?

You should be able to heat and bend the lexan to get the same curves as the quarter panel after you cut it, if they won't fit flat. Just don't melt it. :)

should fit. id rig up something to drill them onto. seel them really well too. id rig a metal little thing to go inside the window and then screw the lexan onto that. or maybe fiberglass. i dont know what im talking about

I have tried screwing Lexan glass on my old 85 Si, but the heat made it crack because it couldnt expand. So thats outta the question. Im just going to put alot of RTV Black on there to hold the window on. I guess I'll use a heat gun if the "flatness" looks too funky.

So this would actually work well on the classic's rear quarter windows since it is flat. Anybody know how much of a weight savings that would be?

Pop out the old ones, and RTV the new ones in with some kind of brace.

I doubt its legal. But who cares. This isnt the Family Car. Its my Project SE-R.

Probly not much. Maybe 3-5 lbs?

Are you sure that is Lexan. That price sounds more like plexiglass. I bought a 4 by 8 sheet of Lexan last month for my truck, the lowest price I could find was $110.

Pop rivet it. I am almost positive it is street legal on those windows. I think the only thing not legal would be the front windshield. I want to do this but want the stock appearance. You know with the weatherstripping around the lexan. Did you see the lexan they offer for Hondas. Wish we had that for our cars. The quarter glass could be a direct bolt-on. Somebody please market these.

hey figgy,

did you ever get these on, i noticed that the windows in the quarter panel dont have screw holes going through them, instead they havea brave with a lot of RTV, should be easy. just swap put the old and in with the new, im in search for some lexan myself... hehe

Why not just take the old glass out and cut the new plexi to the same basic shape and put it in the same frame. Over time the summer heat would push it into the shape that best fit the frame anyway. I thought this would be the easist but have not tried it.

I'll be working on these for my car over the winter, this is not the first time I have worked with lexan either.;)

dude no way you got lexan, that shit is expensive as hell. I work in Home Depot and a 4x8 sheet is like 110, sure you got the right thing?

can rig some mounting pretty easy as i see it in my mind. the thing is, ive held the quarter glass and its not that heavy. you will only end up saving maybe 4 pounds for both windows considering mounting hardware. i think a window would way maybe 5-10lbs at the very most. only way to make it weight practical is to use some bolts though the holes the stock window bolts into and drill a pilot hole for the bolt. then rtv/silicon the hell out of it. would look messed up for sure, cause it would no longer have a semi flush window. air turblance would be hell.

but the quarter windows are held in by maybe 12 10mm bolt/nuts. so you could just go though those holes. weight savings.....very very minimal. I would think you would get more by taking out the torsen bars off the trunk lid....those things are a pain to get back in and we havent got them in yet either.
