: 2.4VE
madandy 11-06-2006, 02:13 AM Ok so I've searched the VE forum and found nothing concrete so here's a thought.
I wanna stroke my baby and dont wish to shell out on an expensive 2.2 crank from Japan.
DET rods; Custom Pistons from the states;Darton sleeves for the block and a balanced etc. KA24 crank, machined to fit the VE block..
Just looking for some experience regarding this crank and making it fit...
cheers
Andy
I dont know how much it would cost to machine the crank to fit and the reliablity after it is all done, it will all depend on the machinist and his/her process of doing it. I know you have to machine the nose and thrust bearings so it can fit. Just get a RE 92mm crank they go for about 1200USD. I have one on order but wont use it til Spring.

This is SP COMPETITION MACHINE Inc. forum name nissanoholic. He might be able to help you out with a custom crank.
madandy 11-06-2006, 06:27 PM Damn I hadn't realised the 96mm crank was 4cw.
Daxx, what's this RE 92mm crank you refer to?
check out raceeng.com and look under sportcompact>crankshaft...it is there.
cb_drift 11-07-2006, 12:41 AM heya andy - bored with thrashing evo's already? :P
(sorry off topic) hows the other ecu compare to the one you had in there?
madandy 11-07-2006, 11:37 AM Hi dude,
The new ECU is majic. The VVL activation is seamless and the torque curve linear like a well sorted engine should have. I feel less inclined to rev the engine as hard now as it pulls so damn well from mid range! As for the EVO's & WRX's...they are still trying to work out how a P11 keeps whizzing by them lol.
I'm tossing up between a cheap stroking and bore kit or just to go with a big bore as per Andreas Miko's recommended set up. I just wont pay $NZD2000+ for a crank when I can have a block sleeved by Darton and buy custom pistons and make a bored 2.185L for basically the same price as the 2.2 crank alone!
madandy 11-08-2006, 12:34 AM I found the QR25 crank(sans balancer shafts) idea in a search. the dude said it was smoother than the Ka24 but yeah I agree...a lot of extra work for that extra cc - wrist pin heights, rod to strole ratio & all that guff I wont pretend to fully grasp. I like the idea of Miko's using a Darton sleeved block to 90mm, DET rods, or Eagle, and some custom pistons, modelled off 20V items, with deeper valve recesses etc. The extra Bore unshrouds the valves and as Miko says the nature of the bigger bore will maintain torque and power to high rpm - something I really like for pulling gears hard right to the end of the earth:squint: . I would, of course, invest in a balanced and lightened 8cw DE crank also:)
Ricer_X_01 11-08-2006, 01:15 AM has anybody tried a 92mm bore yet? my buddy works/tunes for a local shop and says they've done a couple rwd sr20's.
EVLNXR 11-08-2006, 01:28 AM I think Reg Cook has done a qr25 crank in a sr20, but he may be cagey about it if you ask him. Got to wave dollar notes in front of him before he will take you serious, otherwise he can be a bit gruff.

I want to try that size bore, not too sure how the gasket might seat. But only one way to find out :biggthump
STRATTON 11-09-2006, 06:01 PM 96mm crank, who makes this re ? thats a long fucking stroke, with a 88mm bore and some 12:5:1 compression pistons and some gigantic valves would make one bad ass ve.
to bad im addicted to boost ;P. one day ill have a big cc ve :/.

NAracer 11-09-2006, 09:34 PM KA24 crank is 96mm. It will be badass... bigger is better (mod for mod)
Ivanx 11-09-2006, 11:14 PM Wil a VE head fit on a KA engine?
STRATTON 11-09-2006, 11:17 PM no it will not.

madandy 11-10-2006, 06:26 PM KA24 crank is 96mm. It will be badass... bigger is better (mod for mod)You shut up you! 96mm Stroke + 90mm bore...I never said I wouldn't do it, just not too sure on all the pro's & con's...and the house is now on the market;)
NAracer 11-11-2006, 09:20 PM Pro's... stupid amounts of turbo destroying torque.
Con's.. not having somewhere to live :D
madandy 11-12-2006, 12:37 AM con's: your piston has to travel up and down almost 10cm. Say hello to 6600RPM redline.
Yeah that's what's putting me off this crank, rotating mass, pistom speed & all that! I like long stroke inline six engines a lot but to be honest, mostly in large turbo Diesel trucks so I'd be happier with a strong reasonably unstressed rev happy 2.2l 90mm bore...the Japanese 2.2l stroker cranks are too damn expensive.
I doubt a 96 x 92 would make 3/4 the torque of a VE-t28 on 7psi. so I'm not in it for turbo like torque, if I was after that and the fuel un-economy I'd have done the turbo conversion back in may:tongue:

if your doing it right you should get better mpg with a turbo'd de or ve than a non turbo'ed version of the same

from what ive read and heard from a few people, this is a big misconception. as long as the motor is timed/tuned right a stroked motor can still rev higher then stock.
