Hi,

Has anyone heard of MagStar Gold high output spark plug wires?
I found them in a magazine and they were said to be good. I searched on the net for info on them but there is nothing much about it , this is what they state about it:
1. Better throttle response
2. Improved fuel economy
3. Easier Start Ups
4. Improved midrange
5. Better pull to redline.

If anyone has used it, is it true?

What are the best spark plugs and cables that we can use on our engines to get the best performance and fuel economy?
I saw on a previous post, some people said that it is hard to beat the factory cables BUT it is best to use the factory cables when using the standard factory NGK spark plugs or if we change to the Bosch Super 4 spark plugs.

I want to change the plugs because if I try to pull away with the air-con on, the car takes a bit longer and you can feel the power drain by the air-con.

One more question, how big difference do you get with advanced timing? (I am not sure if I asked this previously or not)

THERE IS ONLY ONE CHOICE FOR OUR CARS.

OEM Wires
NGK sparkplugs.

Agreed, stick with the OEM wires. As far as the timing goes; go for it! Its free HP.

Oh yeah and don't forget to use high octane(93).

factory plugs every time. I have thrown a lot of plugs that were "high power this" and "super mileage that" with "100 super tip"... blah blah blah. All I ended up with was a car that sometimes ran great for a short time and then spit the plugs out. NGK only!!!!
I'm using BAE DIING plug wires. Still going strong after 1 1/2 years with them. Factory ones are great though. No question.

Yup I run the stockers for plugs and wires. I believe
you can push timing up to like 19btdc if you run 97 octane. You'll feel a nice kick, but start at 17btdc.

BTW which model is your car? Does it have 4 doors, and a hatch, or is it a standard South African Sentra?

Hello guys,

This is one reason why I like this forum, you get the answers from the people that tried and tested and not afraid to share.

ok, time to answer all the questions now....

I will stay with the NGK and the factory wires.

The timing originally was 12* (I think), I had it moved to 15* for now, I will increase it in stages, not all at once.

I only run 97 Octance Shell petrol, nothing else.

It is a South African Sentra running the SR20DE engine, 4 doors, sedan. According to local factory specs, 140 hp (105 KW) and 178 Nm (I don't know the conversion value) of torque.
Full house car, leather seats, electric window, factory headers, ABS + ..... the other standard stuff.

Unfortunately, down here we don't have lots of Drag races and drag strips, so I could really test the power of the car.

For the moment, I have driven it just over 200 kph (about 125 mph) and it still had more power waiting to be used, this was on an open road (with no cars)

My car is a 2001 Model, the last to be released from the factory.
I saw from previous posts you guys spoke about high ports and low ports, I don't understand that yet (Still learning) so I can't tell you what type it is.

I don't have any pics yet to show you what the car is like, once I get myself a digital camera, I will get some good pics so you may see what the car looks like.

The STi Sentra is one of the faster cars down here and if the mods are done properly as well, it can be a very difficult car to beat.

Until Later,

Hey Mervyn G

I've tried a couple of different makes of plugs. And yes, the factory NGK plugs are tops. The bosch super 4's are crap. They'll make your car idle like a truck. I did a comparison. If you look at the head of the NGK compared to the Bosch plugs, you'll see that the Bosch plug has a shorter head. Not good. This means that the Bosch fires from inside a recess rather than firing in the combustion chamber, therefore a lumpy idle.

Our motors are high port motors. Why? simple explanation. The actual throttle body is situated lower than the intake ports. If your throttle body was higher than your intake ports. e.g Opel or Golf (I think) it would be a low port motor.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

I did the magencor wires with the denso iridium plugs
I am excited about getting back on the dyno to see what's doing

Using any fuel with octane higher than specified in the owner's manual is a waste of money unless you have leaned on the engine. Period. End of discussion.
