Well, I can't figure this out. The front crank seal and oil pressure switch have been recently replaced; I get oil drips on the floor, very small, but if I wipe off the oil pan they go away for about a week. Here's the funny part - the oil level on the dipstick doesn't change UNLESS I CHECK IT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. I changed the oil myself for the first time the last time it was done, and I filled it slightly past the full mark by accident. This is where it still reads unless the engine is stone cold, and even then it still read there for a while. Now it's below the full mark by maybe 3/16", but only when the engine is cold.
I'm really frustrated. They told me my front cover might be leaking, and I just can't tell where the drips are coming from; part of me thinks it's just the lower oil pan. When I pulled the splash shield on that side and shined a light up there I really didn't think I saw any oil.
I don't seem to have a disappearing oil problem; more like a spontaneous generation issue. The car drips but doesn't seem to lose any oil, and as far as I can tell it's not burning any (god I hope not).
So I guess my question is this: does temperature affect oil volume very much? I just don't know what to think. FWIW I am now almost exactly halfway to the next change - 1500 miles.
Any help greatly appreciated.
