If the motor in your car works now, then I wouldnt change it to a JDM SR20DE. I have 167k on mine, I'll change it when it stops working. It isnt worth the money unless your US engine is gone.

If your USDM blows up, then its worth it.
VERY WORTH IT.

The jdm is a very strong motor. (primera) Night and day compared to my 180K chunk I took out. Get a motor from an automatic trans. Auto's are easier on motors, no hard down shifts.

the engine i would be purchasing is a jdm sr20de engine, and all i wanted to know was how much power increase it will give and how much an engine installation generally costs. if you can answer these questions, then please do. thanks

Dude, for someone who has not done their homework you sure are acting cocky! A Primera motor is supposed to bne 147-150hp with 10:1 compression.

Do me and trhe rest of the forum a favor.....

Go to the http://www.se-r.net

Read the mailing list archives and search the site. The point of a motor swap from N/A to N/A is because your old motor is blown.

Gains are from a VVL or a DET. If you don't know what those arconyms mean then you need to do some homework.

Check there or use the search feature here.

The JDM is rated at 150hp. I wouldnt pay over $600 for a good one from an automatic.

Installation can run from $500 and up. Depending who you know.
I recommend you buy a Haynes Manual and dig thru www.se-r.net as well, though. You can learn alot there.

Can someone explain to me how a jdm sr20de from an automatic is easier on motor mounts if you have a manual transmission. That doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

I got the automatic due to the "less abuse" factor.
You can't really ABUSE an automatic as bad as a manual.
( You could but lets pretend its a real nice adult driver )
I think "scmser" meant that the downshifting on a manual tranny is harder on the mounts then a nice smooth shifting automatic.

Just try and get an auto engine.

personaly id look for one not out of an automatic. one reason, SLUDGE. autos are known to sludge up their cam oiling tubes a lot more than sticks. yes it may be "easier" but the truth is sr20's like to be reved more than babied. you baby one and you will end up with sludged oillers and scored cams. one reason why i say redline the engine atleast once a day, i do it to my auto. it makes sure there is enough pressure to clear out those tubes. any jdm engine id say go over with a fine tooth comb. while its out its easy to do. change the water pump, change bearings, clean oiling tubes, new gaskets almost everywhere, check cams for scores all that sorta stuff. just because its not a det doesnt mean it doesnt need the attention.

most people who drive automatics don't dog them. There are no hard upshifts or downshifts. They usually have less wear and tear. You can't accidentally downshift from 5 to 2nd in an automatic. Redline is usually lower, thus further lessening any damage that could occur. I said NOTHING about motor mounts.

As far as oil galleys clogging, go to nissan and get new ones for a 2000 se 2.0. They are larger and further reduce the chance of clogging.

What do people usually pay for shipping a complete engine? Say, from, Andrea Miko to say Madison, Wi. ;)
