: ACT 6 Puck disc

I just ordered an ACT 6 puck clutch and am worried I went a little too extreme. I'm running stock pressure plate with this disc with a DET and am wondering if this setup is overkill and will I blow my tranny with this aggressive clutch (solid centre)?

Thanks

That is ass backwards IMO. To me, you start with a stronger PP first than a disc. You are getting a 6 puck with a stock PP which will not have enough clamping force. Get a HD PP or JWT PP with a stock disc for a DET.

the act 6 puck will be fine in ur det, a friend of mine on the board (se-riousb14)
is running the 6 puck without the presure plate in his det and its fine

It's fine, but is it good? I don't know if its better than a HD or JWT PP with a street disc. You are sacrficing driveability unnecessarily.

Pedal feel..is like butter. Softer than stock. As far as holding your DET. Im running a T28 setup on stock boost on my DE and the clutch starts to slip up top after a couple hard runs. Not major slippage but noticeable. ( Clutch did not have previous mileage on it. OTHER THAN THE BREAK IN MILES ) Went in when the turbo was installed. Im considering the ACT HD PP and 6 puck disk. A couple of guys out here.( Shiet more like everybody ) in the N. Alliance is currently running that setup and seems to like it. One word of advice..definetly do the a lightend flywheel while that mofo is out. I seriously regret not doing it!

Is it the solid disc?? You are goin about it in a strange manner. What is the point of this clutch? I would have gone with a better PP and 2000 SE disc. I have both set ups, I have an ACT 6 puck in my racer, it's way too much for the street for every day driving, it chatters like crazy. I have a JWT pp with a 2000 SE disc in my daily NX and love it. Smooth, grippy and light.

Hey Irwin, that clutch setup should be holding your power with ease. There's something wrong if its slipping. You are making 240 whp tops with 370CC injectors. There's no way you are overpowering that clutch setup if it was working right.

my break in miles could have possibly been a little harder than regular driving miles. My car was not in my possesion during the first day and a half of its life with the new clutch. Im sure Walter and Luis didn't drive the car hard at all while they had the car.;) Honestly though I wasn't as easy on it as I could have been so thats probably why. Or maybe my car is a freak of nature ( like a certain 200,000 mile motor we all know ) and is making ungodly amounts of HP with my setup! ( Doesn't hurt to dream...he,he )

Well the thing is, no matter how freak of a motor it is, it's still limited by the injectors. I doubt you have freak injectors that flow more. :) Take it to the track. I want to see what it runs. Since Antonio STILL hasn't gone to a track yet.

I didn't do cobra MAF and 50lbs injectors...maybe one day. Yeah first chance I get i'm gonna try to head over to SAC and see what the car runs..has a couple tuning issues but it'll be nice to get a baseline run before the tuning. Hopefully my car will be out of the bodyshop by this weekend.

I just put a 6 puck in my 94 and I would be very upset if I had to drive it everyday to work. (I only drive it about 200 miles every three weeks) It chatters and jerks like crazy and it takes some getting use to at the track. On a daily driven car I would never do it.

Just like my friend SE-Realness said, I am running the Stock PP with a Solid ACT 6-puck clutch on my DET. VERY TRUE about the driveability, it takes skill and PATIENCE to be able to have this clutch on your daily driver. I go to school, work, and the track so all in all i put about 400-500 miles on the beast per week. This clutch has been through juice and boost and never slipped on me once, only when tires spinning is when it gets gay. Anyways, don't regret your decisiong on choosing the 6-puck, just be prepared to learn how to drive stick all over again ;) ...ask SE-Rican, he's got a 4-puck on his daily driven classic and handles it like a champ!

The biggest thing I'm worried about is killing my tranny. Driveability doesn't really matter because I'm sure I'll get used to it. The reason I chose this setup is because 2 of my friends run 11 second RX-7's and 1 friend has a 13 second RX-7 and they all use this setup with great success. I know an RX-7 PP is stronger, but I'm not planning on running 11s!:D

By the way, I replaced my whole clutch about 8 months ago so everything is new and strong.

You are right being worried about your trany. Third gear can break pretty easy on these cars under boost. I have wasted so much time and money to find out about our tranys and clutches.

1: most stock PP are not for pucked, composite discs. This is a basic law in the race world. Most cars need 30% over. Ask Jim Wolf (30% + factory disc 4 turbo).
2: non-sprung discs are a bugger on the street.
3: full face, sprung discs with marcel (spelling?) spring Is easier on the trany and chassis.

So here's what I went through:

1: Duel Friction: lasted bout 15,000 hard hard miles.
2: 3 puck, non-sprung disc, double diaphragm (about 2,000lb clamp): Grabbed like a pitbulls jaws. Hard to launch smoothly. In no way a street clutch. hard on entire chassis. I got ripped by the place I purchased it from.
3: 9 puck, sprung hub with mistery pressure plate (company went out of business): crap crap crap... Grabbed for a little while then Sppppppiiiiinnnn... slllllliiiiipppp... I think it came with a factory PP.
4: ACT package, Exedy full face sprung disc, 42% over PP: In love..... happy days =). one of mine blokes has the same on 10psi. Never a worry.

I like ACT, but i'm surprised they would sell you that disc without checking what PP your using.
