Well, I don't know what happened, but it happened. I was making a left turn from a light today, gave it about 3/4 throttle and I guess one of the wheels hit a dip in the road.
The inside tire momentarily lost traction, and the wheel tugged a lil' like usual as the LSD kicks in. Midway thru the process, my RPM's fly to the fuel cutoff, which in the midst of things I thought my tires were spinning so I let off the gas and shifted to 2nd. Right back to red. Hmmm.
Third. VroOOOOOOOOOoom. Uh oh. I tried every forward gear, and I got nothing but a grindy, crusty noise. Crumbs! Stupid mother of! What in the!?
My clutch is only a year old, I thought to myself. I drive pretty gently, and have only taken the car to the track 3 times. I don't launch hard on the street at all so I thought maybe both of my axles somehow broke. So, I pulled off to a sidestreet. Worst case scenario, I see my tranny in pieces.
I'm on this side street, getting my senses back together. The shifter goes into every gear beautifully like it always has. Tranny is ok. Snick it into first, start letting out the clutch---crrreeaaabzzzzzz. The car moves about 3 inches then the engine revvs freely and the car doesn't budge at all. I look under the car: axles look fine, nothing cracked or dripping anywhere. I check the clutch cable, its fine. Time for a new clutch :(
The thing that really bites is that the current clutch I have in there I bought from www.nissan-accessories.com last April for $95. I thought it was a steal at the time. After being raped by the local shop for 600 bucks to install it, everything was great! Pedal effort was very light, almost like it wasn't there. It never grabbed hard from day one, even after the break in period. I guess it was just a shitty clutch from Day 1.
Only this time, I will take this endeavor into my own hands, which frees up money for a better clutch. I figure, hell...if i'm trying an engine swap, may as well try the clutch first! From what it sounds like now, I think my disc just blew up. So, an upgrade to the 2001 Sentra SE disc sounds like a good idea, right? Then, I was thinking about the JWT pressure plate because I don't want the hassle of breaking the clutch lever like people do with the ACT. Those of you with this setup, what are your thoughts? And what were your costs?
Sorry for the long rant/post. This money could have gone to better things.....like the blue NX.
