: Clear glass for B13 interest?
llaprad1 05-05-2002, 09:24 PM I thought I'd shop around for a glass manufacturer to make some clear lenses for B13, and I'd thought I'd gauge interest here to be able to tell them I have x number of sure-thing sales.
If youve got list member-friends who never cruise here but might be interested, tell them.
How much would ya'll be willing to pay for them? I hate to jump the gun, but I could handle production and sales of something like this, should there be enough interest.
Just thought it'd be nice for a more subtle alternative to Tsuru headlights.
playatx99 05-05-2002, 09:36 PM do you have any idea *ballpark* of what these may cost?
llaprad1 05-05-2002, 09:42 PM No freaking clue, but anything over $150/pair is unrealistic.
Actually as far as price goes, I know what its worth for my personal car, but I wondered what you guys might think would sell well (not almost free.).
Im thinking since new headlights can be found for about $70 a pair, under $100 would be a good price for brand new, clear, glass lenses (kind of like 98 SE-Rs or any other late model cars).
silversx 05-05-2002, 10:09 PM any chance of some for NX's?

Ooooo, you're on your own, Im afraid. If things look good for B13s and someone donates NX glass, we'll see (but dont hold your breath).
To be honest, Ive talked to no-one, and Im not so sure *anything* is doable, but we'll see this week. Im just going to make a few inquiries and see how glass manufacturers work.
playatx99 05-05-2002, 10:15 PM I would be interested if you could get some cool lookin crystal lenses for the b13 at around $100
Any chance they could make them for the corner parking lights on a Classic? Nis-Knacks no longer makes them.
BORNGEARHEAD 05-05-2002, 10:25 PM I am ready to buy clear bumper lenses right now! You should work on doing that. I think everybody would buy those. Sorry, I have no interest in the clear tails.
llaprad1 05-05-2002, 10:33 PM Let me clarify... Im talkin Headlights.
Im going to focus on headlights. Im not in the automotive industry. Just that since going freelance, Ive got more time for personal errands.
Clear corners are plastic and look like they require more technical specs than headlight lenses.
I assume (I hope Im not wrong) that a glass manufacturer can mold my headlight lenses and reproduce it with clear glass.
MEclassic 05-05-2002, 11:12 PM One thing to think about is the effect this would have on the function of your headlights. The ripples on the glass are there for a reason, namely to diffract the light to provide an even beam. If you look at the clear lights on new cars, you'll see that they all have a multi-faceted complex reflector behind that clear lens, not a simple parabolic reflector like older cars. The complex reflector allows for even light distribution with a clear lens. It's not as simple as just removing the lens you have and making it clear - It won't function as designed after you do that. You don't know what kind of light pattern you'll get if you just stick a clear lens on there - at best your lighting won't be as even, at worst, it could potentially be dangerous. Lighting is pretty damn important if you drive your car at night - it's not something I'd want to compromise in any way. Not trying to dump on the idea, just make sure you are careful about it before you go modifying the headlights on streetcars that I share public roads with :).
Now the Tsuru lights are another story. They are a properly designed OEM complex reflector headlight. No safety/performance issues with them.

Woah, these things are things I dont know and need to. Im going to start research if this is possible, and I'll look for automotive headlight glass vendors (if they'll talk to me).
93BlackBird 05-06-2002, 09:24 AM Talk to them but if you want to get some for 150 good luck. You are talking about engineering a head light reflector. It must perform properly to not blind people. They just can't go and start cutting angles on a piece of plastic. Work on something easier like maybe clear bumper markers
