I have tried putting LSD parts in a non-LSD case and using an LSD case cover with the bulge for the LSD, but the diff/LSD assembly sits too high in the case for it to close. My questions is what in the non-LSD case causes the whole thing to sit a quarter inch higher than the LSD case? Is the bearing race different? Is the case designed slightly differently?

the case is different. They are also different on the outside. A LSD case has one large axle seal and one small one for the other side. The non-LSD case has 2 small seals. I have not heard of anyone making a Nissan viscous LSD work in the non-LSD case. Hope this helps.

Well damn. Now I need a VLSD case. I got spare gearsets, outside cases, but I have 2 busted VLSD cases and one good non-VLSD case. I have to have a VLSD one for my Quaife to fit in... grr....

Hey Cossie, are you Austrailian? I noticed in some of your previous posts that some of the "wording" you use is Austrailian kind of. Now harm meant though so please don't take it the wrong way.
And Ben, the casings are different. What about them I don't know, but I don't think that the two are interchangable.
BTW, how is the Metro project coming?
Wish you luck and hope this helps,
Sterling

Well i was looking at a non lsd case and a lsd case tonight. It looks like the lsd case has the drivers axles side bulges outward more with about 4-5 fins around it. The non lsd has about 8 fins around the drivers side axle. Which im sure Mr. Tranny case man already new with his lifetime supply of tranny cases =)

I'm not an Ausi, but have had quite a few friends from there and my Sister was over there for a long while. Mine blokes who come from there have a way of spreading their slange. It's been a few years since I have seen them, but I never lost a few of the slanges. Thanks for reminding me to call them after not talking for years. ;)

I realize this low612. I was speaking of the bellhousing half. I'm not totally sure what makes that half different from the LSD bellhousing case, but I'm positive there are at least slight differences.
