Is it really necessary to replace the clutch cable when replacing the clutch? How hard/easy is it, and how obvious is it. I'm doing my clutch in a few weeks and I want to replace everything that I need or should replace while I'm doing my clutch. Any suggestions.

clutch cables are simple if you have hands the size of a 2 year-old and the strength of a professional orange squeezer. in short, it's only a bitch b/c of the tight quarters you need to fit your hands into right by the firewall. other than that one part, everything else is pretty straight forward/easy. they're not too expensive either - $40-50 for a cable from the local dealership.

You can get a cable for much less than that shipped from courtesy nissan or NAPA or something like that. It isn't that bad to do at all. As said earlier the hard part is the retainer by t he brake booster and the clip that hooks to the actual pedal assembly inside the car. I would do it though cause it will make a difference. If you have an old cable the gritch may come to haunt you.
