: Timing troubles - firing order

My timing is fine but I was uppping it to 15 the other day and looking at my Haynes manual (probably my first mistake) they show the firing order as 1-3-4-2 with the rotor turning clockwise and the number one plug terminal being the top right one on the distributor. They list the cylinders as 1-2-3-4 with the 1 being on the pully side of the engine. Needless to say if I hook up the plug wires they way they tell me to the car doesn't start. Does anyone have a FSM or simply recally what the actual firing order is and which terminal is for the number 1 plug wire? Thanks.

Doesn't the cap show what plug goes where? If you can find #1, then the rest of the numbers are the firing order going counter-clockwise. Why did you take the wires off to advance your timing?

I don't think the cap does, but I'll check. I didn't take the wires off. I just noticed that they aren't hooked up the way the shitty Haynes manual says they shoud be. The only time the the wires have been off was when I bought the car two years ago and did a tune up on it. (I put new plugs, wires, rotor and distributor as well as a fuel filter and PCV valve) I put the new wires on in the same sequence that the old ones were. The timing was off a few degrees at that time causing it to miss a little during acceleration. The car runs, I put the plug wires back they way I had them I just had tried putting them in the order the manual says and no dice.

But the car run fine the way you had them first? Why change them around? *eric = confused*

I don't want to change them around, I simply want to know what the firing order actually is, for future reference, since my shitty Haynes manual obviously has it wrong. I assume it is 3-1-2-4 with the number one plug being placed on the bottom right terminal, since that is how it was hooked up when I bought the car and it runs great. Come to think of it, I checked the cap and there are no indications where any of the plug wires go, and I can't recall having ever seen a cap that had any either.
