It depends on what you want out of it. The real advantage is you can get your hands dirty and muck with you own tuning. If you want a plug and play ecu, well, it really depends on what setup your using. Some stuff I've worked with quite a bit, some stuff is close enough to a stock program, and other stuff I really can't provide much beyond a base program.

What is your setup?

I have a similar question. The setup I'm going with. I have a 91 Ssr20de w/ avenir t25, usdm stock maf, 370cc, stock cams, 255 lph fuel pump and nismo fpr set at 4 bar. I think that's all the info you need right?

Jim - Yes, thats all the info I need. I'd recommend using a program based on the stock U12 rom (it uses the same maf/injectors and is safe as houses).

thanks for the reply. I'm sure the answer to this question is somewhere in this forum BUT, where would I get this base program for the U12?

Me. You just note it on your order form. :)

cool. Before I ask any more obvious or stupid question, I'll read your stickies. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go your way for the ECU on my setup.

Thanks...

I have a similar setup to yours. Calum programmed my ECU with a BB program, and it works flawlessly. :biggthump

That's awesome. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Just read of too many boosted sr20de's w/ idle problems or rev problems... Was not looking forward to that. This is my DD for now so reliability and repeatability is good. Thanks for the input.:biggthump How long have you had your setup with Calum ECU?

I have been using the ECU since August. The car is not my DD but I do drive it to work often, on the highway and in traffic. No idle or rev problems here.

so can u do a b14 obd 2 right now

im getting a g20ecu for obvious reason but i was wondering if u can do something like what jwt has

bolts ones when finished are going to be cai/91' cam/vrs 2.5 exhaust/5th gen hotshot header

i figured if im gona get all these bolts ons i need a aftermarket ecu to take advantage of the boltons

and what timing should the engine be set at for a ecu of this caliber?

My B14 support is very limited right now, but a basic bolt-on ecu shouldn't be a problem. Just shoot me an e-mail and ask for an order form when your ready to order.

Set your timing to 15 degrees. Adjust it via the main timing maps, not the distributor.

This is very similar to the setup I'll be using (at first at least). I am all but positive that I'll be ordering the Calum ECU. If i order the b13 ecu with the serial cable setup, exactly what can I do on my end with a laptop without having to make extra purchases (rom burners etc.)? I have looked around the forum but am still not exactly sure.

Without rom burners you can't make any permanent changes. You just get the consult stuff, which is very handy for rom tuning but is purely diagnostic.

So I can tweak with downloadable maps to smooth things out? But changing things like MAFs, rev limits etc would require a rom burner?

Without rom burners you can't make any permanent changes. None.
