Well, given the fact that I am in need of engine mounts, I decided to just check out my crossmember, and make sure the front bolts are tight. Well sure enough one wasn;t, so I went to tighten it, and it is stripped. It will tighten a little, than just go loose again. I looke and it looks like it threads directly into the frame...what can I do to make this tighten down properly when I replace my engine mounts (hopefully next week). Do you guys know if generally the bolts strip, or the frame? Hope I can easily fix this one. Thanks guys

can you helicoil it or tap it?

The crossmember bolts are just too soft. They strip all the time. Do a search on people fixing the problem.
Some will drill all the way through the frame and do a nut/bolt style, or I've heard of some just welding the crossmember on.

I've also seen where people weld the crossmember, and then regret ever doing such. ;) Do a few searches on weld and crossmember here and you'll see what I'm talking about :)
If it's the screw that's stripped, no big, just replace em. If it's the insert, then try and tap it a lil bit larger, and then get yourself some larger bolts. Worse case scenario, would be to just tap thru the frame and do the nut/bolt fix as mentioned above.

So one option would be to just tap a hole through the entire frame? That sounds like an easy thing to do....and just get some longer bolts....All look into it tomorrow. The bolt has stayed in there for a while like that, so im not going to worry about it till next Tues when school gets out for me. But I have to decide what I am going to do buy then. All probably pull out the bolt tomorrow and check to see if it is stripped. Thanks guys.

If the one rolls out easily, it's not doing anything - all the weight is being borne by the other bolt, a recipe for disaster. Seems like helicoils would be the easy fix, but I haven't needed to do this; perhaps going through the frame is an easier/safer fix - I presume you can get up there to hold the nut topside.

yea, well that is the problem. The bolt goes into the frame, and it is a closed in box. Therefore you cannot get a nut on the other side. Im guessing most just drill out the other side of the frame, and put a bolt all the way through it...thats a big bolt....I also need a huge drill to drill that out....maybe my dremel can tackle it!:biggthump
