I was just wondering what oil viscosity other turbo people are running in their cars- 5w30, 10w30 or ?
Will using 10w30 instead of 5w30 reduce oil consumption and blow-by?
Is it true that using 10w30 rather than 5w30 will make our motors more likely to spin a bearing?
Thanks

I use 10w/30 mobol 1 synthetic and my det sounds just like a stock sr20de. It runs really well and hard with that oil.

After a week of using Valvoline 10w-30, i replaced it with the highly praised mobil 1 10w-30 weight. Now my DET is humming and i notice that my oil pressure is always around a good number at idle and WOT. I'm not sure about that spinning a bearing with 10w-30 (and i sure as hell do not want to find out! ) Anybody else with info on that please post!

That I think is the best, But it is very expensive for an oil change about $10 a bottle and you need 5 for the engine so..... if yours is not a daily driver go with the redline full synthetic... I use that in my BB but i do not drive everyday...

I use mobil 1 10w 30 in my DET, it seems to do fine. I have been told by many to use that to.

How good does Royal Purple 10W-30 compare to the Mobile 1 of the same weight?? I was gonna start using that in my turbo project car...

Im running Mobil 1 15/50, i feel its safer to run a thicker oil due to the high temps turbo cars run. I ran 10/30 when i was N/A

I have used Mobil 1 5W-30 since the install 27,000 miles ago and it runs great!. Why are you guys running 10W-30????

I was told 10W-30 has a higher heat transfer... thats why I'm using it...

Royal Purple is GOOD STUFF... From what I've heard, most professional racing teams stick to either Mobil 1 synthetic or Royal Purple synthetic.
I'm currently running Mobil 1 15w-50 oil. When boosting more than 14-15 psi in my SR20DE, the oil temps get super high, and the oil pressure drops quickly. With Mobil 1 10w-30, I actually saw my oil pressure hit 5 psi after a hard run at 20 psi of boost, that was the scariest thing ever. Ever since then I've run 15w-50. I KNOW we are all in need of oil coolers, when running that much boost. Anybody installed one yet?

SR20lbmonster..
oil capacity on a BB det is just short of 4 qts (3.8)..... unless you have an oil cooler to run the 5qts ??
Just wondering....
I found that the Royal purple is great but it tends to get burned faster than the mobile 1 .... I found this out when I was autoXing the NX heavily
Also, you might want to stray away from 5w-30 if you are running the car on track days (road course) or at AutoX on hot days...... turns out that that particular weight has the tendency to get "foamy" at certain temps and cause a drop in oil pressure......enough so that an older timing chain tensioner might give way and eat some valves.....which is what happened to me a while back
