: Begginer Turbo, what do I need?
Slow 96R 05-07-2002, 10:09 PM Hey Turbo guru's got a question for yall. I cann't seem to be able to find a VE so I guess a turbo is in line for me. I would like to know, what engine should I look for? Besides the motor what other parts are needed. Will I be able to hit 250-300 hp from your recommended set up. I'm new to this so bear with me while I pick your brains :-)
spdracerUT 05-08-2002, 12:18 AM add to your motor, gti-r manifold, t28 turbo, cam gears, jwt ecu, fuel rail, 50lb injectors, cobra maf, bigger fuel pump, front mount IC, 3" exhaust.

Slow 96R 05-08-2002, 05:41 PM I want a new motor. My motor has issues. That's why I was asking which motor to start with. The GTI-R or the Blurbird? How can you tell them apart? I've read in the .net archives that the GTI-R motor had some added goodies, but it didn't mention power differences though.
brian 05-08-2002, 05:53 PM the pulsar has 4 throttle bodies, the regular b/b does not, the pulsar has a t28, th bb has a t25, ect, ect. this has been beat to death though :)

you will also need to do a search for turbo info. it will help you decide for yourself who to talk to and what to get.
Good luck

I know. Does the forum archive search deferently than the ser.net archive? I've tried typing in a few things but it doesn't let me look at any post.
domiguy 05-09-2002, 02:47 AM Also one thing to note, a gti-r will be more expensive... not only in initial costs, but other stuff too, like if you have to replace a part in it or rebuild it or something. It's not like the BB which has a lot of parts that are compatible with the US engine.
sr20lbmonster 05-09-2002, 08:10 AM The Gti-r motor parts are very hard to find and BB parts are a lot easier but going with the GTI-r would be better for more power but has more headaches when it comes to replacing parts. You can always get a BB to push out more or as much power as the gti-r again going with the BB will allow less headaches with a little less power in stock trim...
Slow 96R 05-10-2002, 06:49 PM I read through some post, just to make sure I've got it right. When I get the cobra maf & harness it will be from a 93 cobra correct? Part # Maf f5z-12b579-a & harness f432-14a411-a. Thanks
CowboyDren 05-10-2002, 07:14 PM Personally, I don't think the GTi-R engine is worth the double-plus price difference (over the BB's cost) for those kinds of power levels. Hell, the DE is good for 400 if you do it right. I'm also not a fan of the Cobra MAF, especially for those power levels, because they're even more expensive than they look. I'd go for a 300ZX or Q45 MAF, which are often less expensive and cheaper to adapt to the Nissan ECU.
It seems that a properly-tuned BB engine with bigger injectors, MAF, and a T28/GTi-R exhaust manifold should be able to tickle 300 whp, though 280 may be a less lofty goal. Add some S3 cams and adjustable sprockets, keep a close eye on how big your intake tract is, and you should really rock. If you were lucky enough to get a T04B compressor housing off of a later Silvia for that T28, you could definitely hit 300, from what I've seen, and still be very streetable.
Slow 96R 05-10-2002, 07:20 PM Hmm I'm going to look into this. Thanks
