It used to only be when it was cold that my starter would sound like it wasn't fully disengaging the flywheel. Well since I replaced my clutch last week, it's been doing it every time I start the car. The starter gear had rounded off corners and the flywheel had marks as well. Is this just something that the solenoid is causing and can be fixed or do I need to get a new starter? Has anyone had these problems and how did you deal with them? Thanks.

I had my starter removed and "refurbished" (lubed the starter shaft, primarily- it wasn't pulling back from the flywheel quickly) and reinstalled. That was 120,000 miles ago and I've never had another problem. Cost about $50, as I recall.

I'm going to pull it back out tonight and fart around with it and see if I can rememdy some of it. I'll probably take your route and have it refurbished. Thanks for responding.
