: Red top DET not top mount intercooler??
CanadianG 05-08-2002, 02:50 PM I went to a importer and he had 3 engines. Two of these engines came with top mount intercoolers and the pipng. However, the third engine had the turbine inlet facing forwards and not upwards like the top mount. It also did not come with an intercooler nor piping?
How would I know what kind of DET this is. How can I distinguish between a T28(GTI-R) and a T25(BB)??
Thanx
Stu
2wdBlazer 05-08-2002, 03:22 PM Sounds like an Avenier *Spelling* T-25 turbo. They were front mounted.
CanadianG 05-08-2002, 03:26 PM I thought Avenir's were grey topped ?
jbanach77 05-08-2002, 03:36 PM just look for the 4 throttle bodies for the gti-r and one for all the other type det's

djisnx2000 05-08-2002, 03:48 PM I'm Canadian too and my engine was like that. Red top with the turbo outlet facing forward and downward (to a front mount intercooler). I don't know on what car it was yet. All I can tell you is that's a mess of fitting.
The front motor mount won't fit. You'll have to remove the manifold+turbo and loose the snap ring, turn the compressor housing, put the snap ring back.
The motor mount won't fit yet, you'll have to grind it to fit.
The stock pipe coming out of the turbo will not clear the crossmember. You'll have to modify it (I have pictures of this) or make yours.
If you planned on going front mount at first, go with it, but if you look for 205bhp, choose one of the top mounted ones.
CanadianG 05-08-2002, 05:05 PM thanx bro, u going to the meet on Saturday in Brampton?
djisnx2000 05-08-2002, 05:19 PM I don't think, I live in Quebec so... I don't even know where Brampton is located, but I did hear of it.

Can you email me the pictures, or post a link to them?
djisnx2000 05-08-2002, 05:30 PM I'll have to get a scanner first!
But it should be soon. I'll tell ya as soon as I get them.

djisnx2000 05-08-2002, 05:45 PM Yeah, of what I know, I'm the only one in the province to have a front mounted nx so far!

You beat me to it, I was just about to ask the same thing. :)
djisnx2000, if you can get those posted somehow it would be much appreciated. If you can just get 'em scanned, I can host them if needed.

djisnx2000 05-14-2002, 04:35 PM That would work for me. I must warn you, there are 71 pictures to scan. They are in chronological order.
So I would mail you the pictures, then you scan them and send the pictures back to me (I will put some additionnal stamp with the pictures)
Would you do it for free?
Rockwood 05-15-2002, 01:08 AM getting it to fit isnt a big deal
i got mine to fit, no real problems. just rotate the compressor housing up about .5" and fab up your own outlet pipe (stocker doesnt clear crossmember)
check it out here, on my car:

CanadianG 05-15-2002, 04:24 AM thanx hotshtsr20 i didnt know * could just rotate them like that
djisnx2000 05-15-2002, 09:40 AM When I'll have my pictures scanned, you will see what I've done with the pipe coming out of the turbo. I took the same pipe, but I've made a V cut in it, ply it and reweld the "scar".
The result? instead of having a 30degree angle when looking at it, it is a 0degree angle (horizontal is ref. point). But the clearance asn't good enough to clear the crossmember when I put my coupler. So I had another 2" of aluminium pipe weld on this one. Now it totally clears and boost like hell!
