Hi Guys,

I was just wondering what kind of FMIC is everyone using on their DET? I am currently in search for FMIC and the two company that I'm currently leaning towards to is SR20DEVELOPMENT and HOTSHOT. Please no flame about SR20DEVELOPMENT as I know already how everyone is frustated with them.

I'm just trying to gather facts and hopefully lead me to the right direction. I know several of you have made your own but I'm afraid I would like to buy a kit and get it over with.

What other company makes FMIC for the DET and how much?

Thanks a whole bunch!

Steve

FYI: 91 SE-R with a BB DET

Hey I would say that Sr20DEV. Has a better FMIC then any other for the SR20det. They just came out with there own which comes polished, and it look good as hell. I know this because I am good friends with all the guy's over at the shop. They also did my car and are still going to do more in the future. And I was not frustrated at all. I have seen some shitty work come from Hot shot.

I have a starion intercooler on my nx2000. It really does the job. One side is hot and other side is cold (no heat AT ALL). I'm satisfied of it. I'm at 7psi.

Thats cool you got that intercooler to fit. I am going to be boosting 20-28 psi so I need the better intercooler. Im not sure what the whp goal for that guy is so its really up to hom on what kind he wants. Im trying to get 450 whp so I went big on mine

I heard about those Starion intercooler, way cool. I only have a T25 (stock DET) and probably won't boost over 10 psi. I read somewhere that you shouldn't boost past 12 on a stock DET.

Anyhow, I just want to get the car out and about right now so any above decent to good FMIC will be great. I guess as long as I have the piping for the FMIC will be cool. If I have to change the intercooler later on then, Hello Mr. AMEX. :)

Get some ABS piping, easy to cut, fit, cheap too and it doesn't melt.

Did you have to sacrifice anyting to make it fit? I mean no A/C and so on? Got pic? ;)

Yeah, I just have to find a scanner! I will have 68 pictures for you guys!

I did modifiy the intercooler. The original outlets were pointing downward. I've welded a plate under the original holes and have welded two 2" external pipe on each end (near the "summit" of the endtanks). I don't have A/C. The pipes coming out of the intercooler pass just below the rectangle frame for the fog lights, so I've been able to install these back.

Hey Joe, do you know how much the sr20development FMIC costs? I've been tring to call them for like a week now and I can't get through. And what type of intercooler are they using? I hope it's cheaper than the the $1100 that hotshot wants for their setup.

Just a suggestion: Give Louis Anaya (TurbochargedSER on this forum) a private message or email, about the Forge Motorsports intercooler. The price is very reasonable, and it's a top-notch product. About 10 forum members here have them, btw.

Yeah, I missed the GB. Wasn't it like $450 shipped. That was one hell of a deal. I wish I could have gotten in on that. Oh well, I hope it doesn't cost too much more.

Greg is that just the intercooler or the whole FMIC kit? Thanks for the insight! I'll get in touch with Louis.

Steve

Edit: Can someone send me or post a pic of the "Forge Motorsport intercooler," please.

That's just the intercooler from Forge. Go to www.forgemotorsport.co.uk and click on 'intercoolers'. The one we did the GB on was the #104. Purty. As for piping....about $100 should get you enough mandrel bends from JC Whitney to make your own pipes, like I did. Get a hacksaw and some high-temp paint and have at it. Throw on some *good* silicone connectors, weld (or use JB Weld) some beads around the ends of the pipes, and you're good to go.

You should also send CharlieH98 a PM and ask him about that HotShot FMIC and piping kit he just received. I've seen pics of Charlie's setup, and it looks top-notch.

Either way, you can't go wrong. Two good setups.

Its hard to get a good reference of size from those pics, I guess try to use the shoe peekin' out at ya in the first one. It is fairly large. :)

OK how much was the Hot Shot IC? If you can get it @ a cheaper price than $1K please let me know from where? yesous2@earthlink.net if you want to E Mail me privately. Also I just spent some time reading throught the archives, there was some mention of a Spearco & F max IC. Are these kits with all of the piping? I want it as a whole unit. How do these stack up against the Hot Shot kit? Thanks

The forge intercooler is bigger than the hotshot and so is the fmax. More area will yield you more cooling. The f-max and Forge unit are roughly 24" x 6.52" x 3.5". Many Turbo SE-R's have been able to support over 350 hp with the F-Max intercooler. The forge unit is beatiful and looks well made and can be had around $500 from Louis Anaya (sp?).

I have the Forge intercooler awaiting installation.
